Re: Gas $3.12/gal - What have you done to improve MPG?
Some real interesting ideas here , awhile back I was driving a 1981 F***
Bronco mileage was about 11 mpg I got sick of it and the poor mpg I bought a brand new Kia Rio and was able to make my car payment and insurance cheaper than driving the Bronco hated that Rio. 39mpg was great but whata POS anyhow I now drive a Scion XB and its a great econobox but I'm still thinking how I could get to drive the C-10 everyday ? That won't happen anytime soon @ 10 mpg I prefer the idea of recycling an oldie ,but 3 kids 1 of which lives 160 miles from me demands that I drive a reliable economy car I'd gladly spend money to upgrade my truck to get better mpg things like exhaust , electric fan , lowering (some) newer technology cam electric ignition all reasonable stuff but EFI and O/D trans gotta think some on those, $ vs. results hmmmm?

On my 1970 C-10, I tore out the 305 & put in a fresh 400sbc +.030 & traded the Quadrajunk for a Holley 4175.
Oh wait.... you said to Improve MPG. My bad.

Re: Gas $3.12/gal - What have you done to improve MPG?
you guys in the states are getting our oilsands oil unrefined (we sell almost all of our oil to USA) ..if we started refining it first before selling it like big brother does you all would be paying 4 bucks LOL! on the plus side we will be piping it to you a lot more by 2010 and thanks buy the way for buying it and allowing me to take the summer off and work on my truck after all winter in the worlds largest mine The Tarsands of Alberta building an American mega refinery.. if you have any trade papers anyone can work there rotten ronnies even pays 25.00 an hour . welders get 38.00 to 200.00 hr (rigs) I know our rates are lower than yours but we need more workers and that could change fast at the moment our jobs are given to planeloads of chinese portugese and Venes. welders electricians pipefitteres scaffolders these jobs should be taken north americans the problem is that bringing your family there is not easy because of housing shortages ..but the camps they provide have private rooms and rec areas al well al all you can eat and even a tv and internet so you go there do your shifts then leave for 8 or 10 days ..
really though were feeling it too north of the border ..gas up a dime last week ouch .. and the circle track built L47 goes on the road after a long sit in the snowbank ..I guess if it was 10 bucks a gallon I would still drive it to town. |

put a little diesel in it or a straight 6 if you could get french fry oil for free you can run it in a diesel with a kit this is the cheapest fuel free..I have 2 diesel cars 1.6 litr and 2.4 ..I bet a mercedes 300 diesel could make your truck go fine the car is actually near the same weight as a truck ..not sure about drve train though ..how about the smallest non computer gm or ford diesel crate motor with a 700r4 it would get some fuel economy but not as good as a 4 or 5 cyl MB

I parked mine the other day. It needs lots of work, but I can't really afford to drive it this summer anyway.

Re: Gas $3.12/gal - What have you done to improve MPG?
Investing in a fuel efficient vehicle is the best thing you can do. Don't piss your money away. Trying to make these old trucks of ours into fuel efficient vehicles is not going to happen. We're talking dollars chasing cents. Gas is only going to rise...$4, $5, $6/gal is going to happen. Unfortunately some people aren't bright enough to make the decision to drive an efficient daily driver. Hitting people in their pocketbooks is the best way to wake them up. It will be forced upon them when they realize they can't afford to drive a truck with 10mpg when gas is $5/gal. Or maybe they have enough money to burn...
