Re: What did you do yo your truck today??

Replaced my door ajar switch on my 91 sierra 1500, the old one was WORE OUT. It wouldn't even turn the lights off and the new one is significantly more tactile. Now, I'm waiting for the passenger side to go out.

Not much goes wrong anymore, really need to invest on getting my rear sliding window sealed up, all the seals have dry rotted and I've been using RTV to keep it from rattling. haha

Re: What did you do yo your truck today??

Picked up a decent frame for my 1994 Chev ext cab shortbox 2WD. It came off a low mileage(47K) 1998 that had a dash fire that ruined the cab. Friend of mine bought it for the 5.7 engine and the mint box and I got the rolling chassis from him for cheap. Frame is really rusty on my truck and this one only started to show some color after I power washed it. Once I get it pickled in POR-15 it should even outlast me LOL. That hunk of rust in front of the rear wheel is the spare tire carrier that fell off my truck a few months ago so you can imagine what the rest of my truck's frame looks like.

Re: What did you do yo your truck today??

i just picked this 98 GMC up this weekend. belltech spindles and c-notch. i'll be changing out the 265's in rear for sure. they are way to big. probably go to a 235/75/15 on the 8" rears since the front has 225/75/15 on 7" fronts. i think that will give it a better, more level stance.
roll pan rear with hidden receiver.

Very nice, I like the wheels. I am old school and like the 15" rims better than the big wheel little tire.

Re: What did you do yo your truck today??

thanks guys!! got a set of 235/75r15 put on the rear. took dash out and replaced a burned out check engine light. failed emissions due to that and a p0420 code. cleared code out and drove it maybe 10 miles and probably 12 start/run/shut off cycles trying to get computer to reset. no check engine light as of yet.

Re: What did you do yo your truck today??

Heard a snap this AM when I backed the truck out of the yard and now the body lines don't match up any more. Officially off the road now until I can get the frame swapped. Fortunately we have an identical low mileage frame in really good shape. Lots of work but well worth the effort.

Re: What did you do yo your truck today??

Replacement frame is in the garage and ready for wire brushing and paint. Big job swapping frames but the end result is worth the effort.

A quick test with a wire wheel in the cordless drill on a small section found black paint underneath all the mud and crud which sort of changes my plans for the choice of paint. I've been told POR-15 won't stick to painted surfaces so I'll have to go with good old Tremclad or Rustoleum.

Re: What did you do yo your truck today??

I have had no luck getting POR 15 to stick to anything except rust or sandblasted metal. I would us an oil rich paint such as rustoleum . It takes days to dry though. I have done many frame swaps over the years, pull the cab and bed, then motor /trans set both frames next to each other and switch things over.Don't put the motor back till all brake and fuel lines are in. Suspension parts are easier to switch with the motor in for the weight.

Re: What did you do yo your truck today??

Been fixing wiring for a week. PO hacked it up, and tried to fix it with duct tape. I'm fixing all the breaks by twisted, crimped, soldered, heat shrieked, and all new flex loom.

Re: What did you do yo your truck today??

I bought a complete running 96 W/T 4.3 5 speed for parts. Pretty clean truck but the frame is rotted out bad. I will be taking the the new wheels and tires for mine as well as the hood, tailgate and sliding rear window for now.

That is a clean looking truck. I would have never guessed frame rot associated to it..

Re: What did you do yo your truck today??

PO was an over the road trucker. He didn't have a garage so put it in one of those canvas shelters with a dirt floor. I think between the moisture coming up from the ground and not getting drivin often enough to dry it out helped it's demise. Funny thing is the bottom pinch weld of the tailgate is rust free yet door bottoms are gone. I can break pieces of the frame off by hand from A pillar back to rear axle . All 4 wheels are new and upper control arms within last two years due to rust.

Re: What did you do yo your truck today??

Still plugging away at the frame swap on my blue truck but now there's no pressure to finish it anytime soon. Picked up another truck last week - a 1994 Silverado 2500 with a 350, 14 bolt rear and every option known to man. No rust Alberta truck with only 160,000 kms - just needs a few new front end parts and a new windshield. Should tow a lot better than my old blue 1994 1/2 ton with a worn out 305.

Re: What did you do yo your truck today??

This thread is looking a little stagnant so I will post my new change. I had installed aux. backup lights a couple years ago to allow me to see while launching and retrieving my boats at night. I used regular tractor lights that were common at any parts store. Recently the left side bulb burned out ,it is three years old but has an hr. of time on it at best. I decided to upgrade to some LED'S off E-Bay and can't believe how much brighter they are. This shows the difference I did change both.

That is some serious lighting. I like how everyone around you has the typical (for today) black/dark vehicle, while you stand out within the crowd.

My daughter has the blacked out Silverado and the Jeep is my wife's winter ride. She has a silver Mustang convert for nice weather. The new color is different enough to get attention wherever I go these days.
