That was what I wanted to do, but finding one isn't easy. I found a roof though, and decided what the heck, the floor will be covered with carpet. I just gotta get this done, so I can get back to the real projects.

Re: Another Crewcab build

Finally got some more done. U-pull it had a half off sale this weekend. I picked up two more sets of doors, one set for the rear doors, and one set for donor parts for the fronts.
Half of what I did today was re-doing what got done last weekend. Getting the top rear corner to work out took a couple tries. At first I just cut the window post loose, and tilted it back straight. That ended up being about 3/4" too tall to the top corner. I ended up cutting the corner 45 degrees to the back side. I cut a piece out of the top of a junk door at 45 degrees from the top.

The lower inside corner is tacked in place. The outside will go in tomorrow. That is a huge window.

I spent some time measuring the rear door. I had arbitrarily decided to shorten it 10". If I shorten it 10-1/2" the top of the door will be long enough as it is. I can just cut it like I did the front door without using any extra door parts. I'd only have one weld right at the corner. At least I haven't cut anything that can't be fixed yet. Now I just have to figure out where to cut the inside of the door. I guess the first thing to do is look at the window crank, and see if I can shorten it.

He is a crew cab I saw last weekend at the Sunflower Swap Meet at the Kansas Colesium in Wichita, KS. It appears to be a Suburban front half with a Suburban or Panel rear half converted into a bed.

It is not mine and I don't own it or know who does.

The black one is currently on eBay.

66Z71,

The door looks like it is coming out pretty well. Can't wait to see this when it is finished. Keep up the good work!! Here is a photoshop pic from member XXL from over in the photoshop forum. I am trying to get him to photoshop it with the long bed from the original photo. This is what you would call an early version of a MEGA CAB before Dodge ever thought of it.

Re: Another Crewcab build

Great looking progress. It is really coming along well. I don't think I'd even try to go as far as just building one from two cabs. I'm working hard enough just restoring mine.

And that black one on ebay is a beauty.

Ask and you shall receive. LONGHAIR has photoshoped the request for the long bed version of this truck. I will call it 1966 MEGA BIG K10

Re: Another Crewcab build

Damnd you guys. I was just taking a quick break before cutting the rear door, and I see this. That is awsome. I took a longer break and thought it over. Even though it looks great, it would look out of proportion with a short bed. So that means almost 3ft longer. The frame would have to be stretched. It would be a pain to drive something that long. And I need to keep it simple enough that it gets finished.
So it's back to the original plan. Someone else will have to build this one.

Re: Another Crewcab build

Ok, here's the rear door. I'm starting to get better at window frames. So I decide to start there. Quick nip and tuck at the top, and the bottom swung back into place. I braced the top to the inside first so it wouldn't move around. The window frame is pretty floppy when its cut loose.

The door curves in for the front 4 inches or so. I split the door jam, and clamped the outter skin to a piece of angle iron to hold it straigh, then filled in the gap left. There's still lots to be done to get the inside jam to line up. The front pillar is definatly thinner than the rear. I'm still not sure what to do about it. The window channel is 3/4 wide just like the rear, so I can't just split the jam, and widen it. I either have to split it inside & out, and widen both sides, or live with a slight misalignment on the inside.

Well, time to quit for the weekend. Here it is clamped to the front door. There is still some work to do to line them up, but I'm feelin like its doable.

Yes! Lets see more! I'm going to do my doors slightly differently, but I've been slacking off on my project.

Re: Another Crewcab build

If you had yet another door to cut up, you could just cut out another front inside pillar, and weld it in where the discrepancy is (over/on top of), and leave the original piece as it is.

Good idea. I have that piece left from the door I cut up to finish my front door. I'll take a look at it after I get the door all welded out, and solid again
