Re: Project 6 Point Oh

New brake hardware, new shoes, new wheel cylinder, and new drums. I always like to put a little brake lube where the shoes rub the backing plate.

That's an awesome tip, I will have to try that on my next sandblasting session.

Re: Project 6 Point Oh

Everything on these brake calipers was bad, stripped out bleeder screws, pistons stuck, ect. So, it was cost effective to buy "Loaded" calipers. They come with new caliper bolts, bleeders, brake pads and everything ready to go. Also I got some more Moog front end parts in.

Re: Project 6 Point Oh

I ran into a couple of problems with wrong parts. First problem was, I went to Rough County's web sight and ordered front and rear stainless brake hoses for a 1972 Blazer with a 4" lift. Well, after trying to install the rear hose I discovered that the brake lines (that go to each rear wheel cylinder) wouldn't screw into the block on the new brake hose. So I called Rough Country and described the problem. They said that maybe their website had the wrong part listed and that they would overnight the correct rear hose. The package arrived and it was the exact same part that I already had and it wouldn't fit. So, I called Rough Country again and explained that they sent the exact same part and it was wrong. They gave up and said to return the hoses for a refund. (I'm in the process of doing that now) Then I called In Line Tube hoping they could sell me some 4" extended braided hoses. They had to build them, but it was no problem and the rear hose fits like a champ!

Re: Project 6 Point Oh

This is the rear brake hose from Rough Country that wouldn't fit. They have some issue with they're parts or part numbers for this application and they can't figure it out. Also I noticed that it was made in China. The new custom built hoses from In Line Tube are made in the USA. Hopefully someone else needing hoses will read this, and it will save them the drama of wrong parts that I went through.

Re: Project 6 Point Oh

Here is a picture of Rough Country's brake hose and Inline Tube's hose, side by side. You can see that the female threads in the brass block (on the Inline tube hose) has a larger ID than the threads on the other block. This is where the hard brake lines, coming from both rear wheels, attach. Hope this helps someone.

Re: Project 6 Point Oh

Now for the second issue that I had with wrong parts. This time it was my fault. I had ordered all new stainless parking brake cables from Inline tube and it never crossed my mind that my 4" lift kit would cause issues with my parking brake cables. When I installed the stock length cables, they would fit but were stretched tight and would probably work but I didn't like the idea of them being in a bind. I did tons of reading and researching on other Blazer builds where they had a 4" lift. What I found was the only answer is to call Inline Tube and have them make custom cables that are 3" longer than stock. So again I called Inline Tube and they built me two longer cables and saved the day. I can't say enough good about Inline Tube, they fixed my brake hose issue and brake cable issue, and have quality stuff. Here is a picture of the stock vs the longer cable.

Man your an earlier riser! Progress is looking good, hope to see this one in person some day. I wonder if you know any of my car buddies over in Tyler, Mike Harty, David Hale, Charlie Molloy, Barry Clark, Stuart Suggs, Keith Harper, Curt Priddy, Don Davenport, and others that I just can't think of right now...

This is going to be a great truck! Your New 72 K5 is way better than what was thrown together at the factory. Your attention to detail shows. Carry On.

Rear brake hose installed. I need to hand bend the hard lines some, to improve the looks but it's ok for now.
