Re: A '54 named Busty

Wiring is the worst, such a pain. I like to use small zip ties to hold it all together as I go. They are easy to cut off, no adhesive to deal with and you can pull wires out of them if needed. Probably go through a few hundred when building a car.

I hear you brother and thank you for the advice I will give the little ones a go, I know that the old tape I used the lighter in color with writing on it, (which you can no longer buy, darn it) was super easy to work with and do and undo and reuse, the darker one is much more difficult to use

ha ha, I love a brother who follows along and reads the thread, well, I think my mamma must have dropped the PCM on my head too many times, cause I actually enjoy wiring so we give it a high score of ... [wait for it] ...

Wiring Fun Level (WFL) = 8.0
Cons - old sticky tape gets your hands dirty, nice and black unless you wear gloves to undo it all

Pros - WYSIWYG What You See Is What You Get, ie you get immediate recognizable results, unlike rebuilding an engine for example and having to wait weeks or months to hear it fire, I hope that makes sense

Re: A '54 named Busty

Yep, hook up that multimeter and you have a winner...or a looser and you re-do it.

I've not done the thinning of the PCM like you did, and I hooked it up with with all the connectors attached to the wires, but it does looks interesting. Where/how did you learn to thin the harness?

from Brandon aka the "Godfather" of LS Swap wiring - he has a *****in' website lt1swap.com that has all the detail of the pin outs and does a three part video series on You Tube on how to do it wire by wire, I watched the videos a dozen times there is a lot going on in them and he does not edit anything out, please give it a go

Re: A '54 named Busty

so all these wires will get shortened and new pins crimped on,

FYI the PCM uses two different size pins the pin side is the same size but the part that grabs the wire is two different sizes depending on the gaugeness or thickness of the wire

Mouser part numbers: 829-15359001 $15 for 50 and 829-15359002 $20 for 50

I decided to mount the PCM to the firewall on the passenger side for the following reasons
  1. closest to the battery and the starter so shorter wire runs
  2. offset the weight of the driver (for racing purposes - yeah right!?)
  3. thought about running the PCM on the inside of the cab but the PCM belongs in the engine bay (became lazy and talked myself out of it)

Aren't you the same guy who was posting temps because it was so hot?

Also, why is a tilt an old guy accessory?

AC, tilt, cruise control, power windows, power seats, not necessarily old man accessories just don't belong on a Hot Rod, those who do miss the point - less is more (and I'm right and everyone else is wrong, ha ha)

Cool. I have a similar setup for headlights, fuel pump, etc. I like it a lot.

Re: A '54 named Busty

I should be able to get you one next week. I’ve moved beyond the wiring room living phase (at least for now) and she at the body shop getting an estimate.

That sucks! A perfectly good weekend and waiting on parts. I'm sure you can find something to work on, so it will still be a good weekend.
