Re: Bumpers back from plating...before and after

All in all the caps look really nice. I've got a couple sets of 3/4 T caps to send their way. The shop that I plan to have do the majority of the resto work on my K20 has used this company for years and they've been pleased.

NO, I just got them this afternoon and then I had to run to night school. I am going to call and see what they say. If they say that they where preexisting I am going to ask why they didn't give me a price to fix them.

If the one cap wasn't dented i would be doing back flips But believe me I am still pleased and may have them do a few more.

I do

My dad uses a shop that is in Louisiana. They simply have the item re-chromed in Mexico, and send it back. Smart way to avoid dealing with the EPA as it keeps the cost affordable.

I called today and talked to Rebeca at Electroplating. I explained that there where dents in the one cap and she said to send the cap back and they will fix the dents

So since I am shipping a box back to them I am going to have them chrome 2 more caps

Re: Bumpers back from plating...before and after

I ended up sending 2 of the chrome caps back. One had a few dents and I noticed the other one had a small blemish and a spot where the chrome lifted or flaked.

I talked to Rebecca and she said no problem that they would redo them and ship them back at no cost. I got them back today, about a 2 week turn around and they look awesome

With the price vs. quality and the fact that they where hassle free with respect to redoing 2 caps I would definitely use them again. Nate

Pete,
I beleive they have a runner that travels to and from Albuquerque and picks up at the main Oreilleys in the SV....I have two straight bumpers to send them.....looks good!

I wanted to chrome an OEM rear step bumper but the company won't accept them. Apparently, the irregularity of the diamond plate won't allow for adequate surface prep leading to poor plating.

Getting the K20 built one piece at a time. Happy Thanksgiving.

Re: Bumpers back from plating...before and after

I have a 1936 Chevy car grill that I would like to get re-chromed and I got a quote of $350 to do a little fixing and re-chrome but I am having a hard time packing it up and sending it down there for fear it will get lost, I have the worse luck.....

Re. cost. Keep in mind that original post was over a year ago and EPA laws change almost daily so costs will reflect that.

About two or three years ago I spoke with a person about chroming and he mentioned that most of the work he gets he sends to Mexico for rechroming since their environmental laws are not as strict.

Re: Bumpers back from plating...before and after

Man those bumpers and hub caps came out nice! I want to build custom bumpers for my trucks and im thinking they would be cool chromed but I wonder why diamond plate would be a problem, If I media blast that part I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Can you find out the name of the shop in Loyisiana for me? It might save me some shipping cost.

Re: Bumpers back from plating...before and after

Wow. I'm glad somebody revived this thread. I got a few referrals for some electroplating services here in Fort Worth, TX, and wasn't too thrilled about a couple of the quotes.

I'm guessing since 2011 their prices have increased, but it is still sure to be less than what I was quoted.

I've got several bumpers which need to be re-chromed.
