I picked up a parts donor 'burb-turns out it's a 50th

I had been in negotiations with the old farmer down the road to buy this '68 'burb he had rusting away at his farm. It has a few parts I can use for my '68 panel. We came to an agreement and monday I paid him and made plans to return with a trailer wensday to drag it home. Monday night I got to reading the thread about the '50th P/U in Denmark, and thought 'That sure sounds a lot like this 'ol 'burb I just bought'. A little research and consultation with 68SUBURBAN, and sure enough. It ain't much to look at, with pretty serious cancer down low and around the rear wheels. Kids have shot out every piece of glass with BBguns, but the front clip and doors are not bad. Clam shell is decent. 3/4 ton 327 (that ran when he shut it off for the last time-in '84) automatic. I lack the ability to post pix, but over the weekend I will get some to 68SUBURBAN and he will post them. Now I have a tough decision to make:to part out or not to part out. If somebody was to want it, I would be left still needing parts for my panel.

I will trade you a really nice running 350 for the 327 if the engine is an original 327 from '68 and the block is not cracked. I am going to need it for my future 50th restoration project. BTW...where are you located?

WOW, rare find. Don't part it out. Either save it and fix it, or sell it whole, make a buck profit, and find another parts truck.

Would you want to build a "one-off" 50th anniversary panel truck? Reckon that any were ever built?

That's certainly a thought. Best of both worlds, maybe.

It's pretty bad, alright.

Thank you, Christopher, for putting these up. That rust is more than I can deal with. The r/s front fender has been re-painted at some time. The p/o said he hit a deer-actually the deer hit him-but what metal is there is very straight. 17.5 inch wheels, try to find tires for those He gave me six of them with ancient tires mounted. I got 4 of them to hold air, but pulled one off the rim getting it out of where it was. Not fun getting it home. So back to the original question: to part or not to part? It has virtually every single major part (in good shape) that I need for my panel. I don't think I can find a package like that for the money anywhere else. In one of those pix, you can see the back of my panel peeking out of the shop

Christopher, if you can, put up some of those close-ups of all that rust down low in the rear. There ain't much left.

I wonder if they did better chrome as part of the whole 50th thing. I mean, look at those bumpers. They look like brand new. And the head-light bezels, it don't show up real well in the pix, but they are shiny chrome, instead of dull aluminum like you usually see. Lucky thing the kids with BB guns were good shots. They took out both head lights, but missed the bezels. I poked a hole in the bottom rad. hose and pure anti-freeze came out, and the oil has no water in it, so I'm reasonably sure that 327 is re-buildable. Hell, it would probably fire up right now if I put a battery in it.

'68 50th anniversary 3/4 ton burb. Man, I could never bring myself to part it. Plus, it looks too restorable to me. IMHO, I would restore it or sell it whole to somebody who will restore it.

The 100,000 dollar question is how bad is the rust you can't see.

Floorpan, Roof, firewall and such.
