Re: Circus wagon pics ?

Bringing this old thread to the top.
Anyone else remember this Magazine truck project from the 80's?
I wish StreetTrucks or someone would resurrect this truck project.

Re: Circus wagon pics ?

Keith... do you think it's the '68 currently for sale on Ebay? (painted in 50th colors)

Sorry I don't have a link; maybe someone can add it. It's the same truck that was featured in Truck Builder about two years ago.

Yep, remember it well. Jim Aust was the owner right?

Wow! This is an oldie. Yeah, I remember the truck well. That truck totally fueled the fire for my 67-68 passion.

One of my all time favorites! The right wheels and the right stance can transform any ugly duckling. Does anyone recall if those were 18s and 20s?

I don't think so.

Here's a picture with the stepside bed still on it.

I don't know if any of the picture are current,... or if the truck still even exists.

Re: Circus wagon pics ?

If I remember correctly it was the late 90's. Yes, Jim Aust was the owner and was writing about it in Sport Truck magazine. It had a very early AirRide Technologies kit on it (1/4" lines), 18/20 wheel combo, new at the time Toyo Proxes S/T tires. In a later issue they upgraded the air ride to larger lines and valves.

A lot of the pics posted are new to me! I kept up with the truck as much as possible at the time. I fell in love with it and a few years later started on my project.

Jim was a member on here, user name CircusWagon, but he hasn't been active in 2 years. I sent him a PM a few years ago to let him know how the Circus Wagon had influenced me, this was his response: "Super cool! Good looking truck- I sure miss mine. Thanks Jim".

I wish StreetTrucks or someone would resurrect this truck project.

That would be a cool one to find, I know Streettrucks has been talking quite a bit about resurrecting famous older trucks lately, that would be a great canidate.

I think Jim Aust opened up a SoCal Speed Shop, so his internet time is probably devoted to the HAMB.

Man,... my memory is terrible.
For some reason I had it in my head it was 1980's in Popular Hot Rodding magazine.
Thanks for clearing things up.

So,... the real question is,... where is this truck today?

I agree, it'd be nice to know what happened. It's a shame when a project that was quite cutting-edge and obviously pretty popular just disappears. While it's not a unique concept now, it was certainly a pioneer.

I'd post some scans of the articles, but they're in storage with all of my stuff (and my truck) out west. Won't have them in hand until July.

... of course I could just bring this thread back to the top then

Re: Circus wagon pics ?

A few years ago I PM'd him on the HAMB. His name over there is Jim A. He told me he had no pictures of the truck. I must have caught him at a bad time because he wasn't very friendly.

Re: Circus wagon pics ?

I too pm'd him questioning what happened to the truck. The reply I got was that it had been sold and taken into a direction that he didn't care for. I took from him that it was never intended to be turned into a show truck which it sound as if the new owner did. I fell in love with a 67 short step about the time he start writing about the circus wagon in sport truck 99-2k. Still think it was the best magazine rides ever done. He nailed it.

actually, since they mentioned it was air ride and judging by the stance and wheel/tire combo it would be more like a 6.5-7" front and 9-9.5" rear drop and only achieved with bags as driving that low static leads to issues including turning and of course ground clearance.
