I would say that Snap-on is a Great choice, I have a set that my dad started out with over 35 years ago!

I've got some Snap On and a few Martin hammers and dollies. I like them all.

Martin is the other brand I couldn't remember.
If this kid is going to do it professionally, he has to have professional quality tools, which are not cheap. Good tools easily last a lifetime of use. A 75 dollar hammer is a bargain if you use it for 30 years. Remember, cheaper tools use poorer quality steel, are not made as accurately, and are not warrantied as well as pro tools. Pretty much every bodyshop in America has a Snap-On man come by every week to sell tools and warranty broken ones.
