anyone ever built a c-50 pickup?

I was wondering if anyone has ever built a c-50 pickup. I think a c-50 would make a sweet big @ss dually. I have seen quite a few of these trucks around my house, just old worn out farm trucks. Maybe slap some stepside fenders onto a lwb bed and shorten the 50's frame? Anybody got any pics?

I always thought that it would be a good modification, the only draw back would be the horrible ride, that much suspension and no weight on it would be a bad daily driver.

With the trend lately of slamming 1 tons on airbags, you could pull something off that hasn't actually been done if you went that direction with it.....
chop up a suburban cab and turn the 50 into a crew cab monster. You could overcome the suspension shortcomings, if you're set on using such a large platform.

I like ur idea doc rock. A crew cab, bagged c-50. That would kick @ss Wonder if someone could photoshop one?

What axles are under that 4x4 flatbed?

Wonder how u could build an independent front suspension for one of these monsters if bags were to be used? Maybe fab a one ton crossmember and suspension to fit?

I've been looking for a decent one, straight body AND frame for years to restore as a flatbed wrecker. Every one I look at has been thrashed and trashed. Sweet pic of the green one. Got any specs on that? Axles, tires, eng, trans?

aren't the mod-late 80's GMC school bus front ends independent? That's kinda all it is, a shortened school bus. As I recall, GMC 50 passenger buses were on a C50 platform, 80 passenger buses were on a C70 frame.

I'm not much of a 4WD'er, but that 50 looks like it's mean.

I never knew thay were rare in some areas. This part of the world is chock full of them in farmer's fields. I'll bet I see 5 of them on my drive home from work just sitting abandoned on farms.

Keep in mind, the cabs are way different than normal and of course the front clip is too. You won't be able to use pickup doors or anything out of your parts piles.

I have a couple of c-60 doors, why couldn't you just cut the proper angle off the front corner of the door to clear the big c's fenders. Otherwise they are the same. Up here in potato country there is also about a million of these trucks many with the tach and vac dashes. These trucks only get run in the spring and during harvest time and have quite the low miles on them.

The doors can be modified to work.Hey!,no comments on that 4wd?That truck is awesome!!!I want it.On TheDieselPage.com there was a C/50 PU that was Cummins powered.It had the 67-72 PU style.

That front axle looks like one of the old Napco axles. Here's their website, theres an awesome 2 ton 4x4 on there in the photo gallery. I think it was orange with a lot of rust on it.

I've seen a lot of nice ones, in junkyards and on farms and such. The motor and interiors may be "trashed" but becuase they sit so high and most of them were "summer farm trucks" 90% of the trucks I've seen have been perfectly straight and rust free SC trucks.

That green 70 was on ebay a couple times. Not sure if it ever sold. I had some more pics of it on another computer w/ a cold and can't retrieve them yet.
I saw a nice c-50 wrecker the other day but didn't have my camera, it was parked in front of a service station. The guy i bought my 72 off of has a couple wreckers in his "yard" I'll swing by and get some pics in a couple days.
