Front upper shock mounts..threaded or not

I'm putting the front upper shock mounts on my 68 and I have two kinds...one that is threaded on the end and captures the shock with a nut and the other kind has nothing ..I suppose the shock just slips over it and stays in place. Am I missing something here. Is one style better than the other? Any sources for new ones? I've looked through the catalogs I have and I don't see any.

You'll want to use the threaded type. It is bolted to the frame with a big nut. Then, the other end has a smaller nut that retains the shock.

The other one you described sounds like the original one out of the original shock.

Make sure you torque the stud very tight. These trucks tend to get loose upper shock mounts and they wallow a hole in the frame real quick.
