Having trouble getting an auto meter fuel gauge to work. I used what I thought was the sending wire from the original cluster harnes. How would you all hook it up and how can I be sure I have the correct wire (other than color, my truck has had an interesting electrical history).

P.S. the whole dash in now Autometer's Cobalt gauges, very happy with them.

Hey goffer, run a search because i know a couple of guys have posted solutions to your problem with the autometer gauge. I cant remember exactly what was said but i remember that your are NOT suposed to use the factory harness the way it was originally hooked up.

I used one of the two fuel wires from the stock connector but cannot for the life of me remember which one it is, I think it was tan.
You can always just run a wire from the sending unit in the tank directly to the guage itself, might be easier and faster for you than hunting down the correct wire in the connector.

I think there are about 3 tan wires in that harness, so I found the tan wire coming from the tank under the fuse box and spliced in there.

I found the correct wire from the harness. There are several brown and tan wires in the harness. I knew I had about 3/4 tank, one of the tan wires read 68 ohms, so I knew where to go from there.
