Do you have the factory service manual? It tells you how to disassemble. I think I scanned my tilt pages. PM me and I can email the pages to you.

Exclamation stuck on the two pivot pins now.

Well i got most of this column apart but im stuck at the Bearing housing pivot pins? there are two, one on either side.. and i guess you need the GM J tool, J-21854, does anyone know if you can make something or if there is another way to remote these two pins?

please let me know if you can.

I jsut PM'd you too.
The hole in those pins is threaded. I took a bolt, washer, and socket. The socket has to be larger than the pin. I put the washer on the bolt, and the bolt through the socket. Then I threaded the bolt into the pin and cranked it down to pull the pin out. If I remember correctly I had to add washers as I went to pull the pins all the way out.
I will go take a picture quick.

I use a slide hammer with a screw from the turn signal or taillight lense to pull the pivot pins. I think you can get a slide hammer(dent puller) at any auto parts store. Woody

Here is a picture. Obviously you will want a shorter bolt.

One of a few type available..cost about 4 bucks...searched "tilt pivot pin" on ebay to come up with this pics and the auction all asking $7. One was snap on though.

Tilt Disassembly

I have problems getting the upper cover off. Not too much of a problem with the levers(tilt, turn, and gear) or the turn signal assm. but the tin housing is a real pain in a**. They often have not been off since made and have had ashes and soft drinks spilled making them really sticky. What is the answer short of the dealer tool?

Has anybody figured out a way to do this??

Anything would help - Thanks - Bob
