Exclamation Looking for a set 1967-68 16.5x9.75 wheels

Looking for an original set of the wide 16.5x9.75 wheels from a 67-68 3/4 to 1 ton truck. These wheels MUST have the 4 rivited tapbs on them that hold a hubcap in place!
Thanks in advance!!

I've been looking for two of those rims for a long time. I found one at the local junkyard that had a good 33/12.5/16.5 mudking tire on it with about 60% tread. And get this, I only payed $10 for it!

Hey I know a yard that has some here in TX but they want $50 for each rim, I think that's kinda high. Let me know either way and I can call and check for you.

There is a hubcap site that sells the clips only. They are expensive...like $120 for four (4) wheels but is probably cheaper than shipping! Just a thought!

BURNSMAN,

Thanks for checking...I do appreciate that you tried.

Robert1970C20rstbukt,

If it's not too hard for you to check for me I would appreciate it! What I'm looking for in these wheels is:
1. They are straight
2. Little surface rust
3. All 4 tabs are on the wheels
4. And of course that they are truly a 16.5X9.75 wheel.....this is usually stamped on the outside near the valve stem with a date code(hopefully no older than 1965).
Let me know!
Your help is greatly appreciated and needed!

On the two rims I have, it has 16.5x9.75 stamped towards the outside, and some other letters next to it. I'll have to check again when it's not raining and I had mud all over the tires so that didn't help either. Anyway these are the kind that take the dog dish hubcaps that go over the tabs on the rim, they don't have actual riveted clips on them. I called they yard they have four of 'em that are like the ones I have(16.5x9.75), but they don't have the old style hubcap clips, they're just regular steel wheels.

Rare Birds! You`ll probably have to buy the ones w/broken clips and buy those replacement clips.Clip-type didn`t last, always breaking. The reason for change in design.Another route, you could take wheels with good clips and have them built to desired width.Thing is,the clips are time-bombs.Hold your breath everytime you need to pop a hubcap.Thank goodness for the replacement clips.Good luck, your truck deserves them.

You could always buy the clips separate and drill holes in the rim to make 'em fit, but I'm not sure how it would look. Someone told me you can buy the hubcap clips at CarQuest for like 25 cents each. Sorry I couldn't help ya man.

I want to see a picture of these wheels. Does someone make custom size wheels with the original 4-clip hubcap setup? Am I reading this correctly? Are these 8-lug wheels?

If you have standard Clip-type wheels, there are wheel-builders that will put your centers in desired width rims.

I have checked on the "wheel builders" like Stockton Wheel...HOLD YOUR BREATH! They want you to send them the entire wheel (about $25 shipping per wheel) and they will charge you $165/wheel for welding and powder coat plus $25/wheel shipping. That will be $860 for a set! They will be nice...but outside my budget.

Patience...just keep looking. I saw a set of (4) 16's w/ clips at a swap meet here for $50. My '68 3/4t. Longhorn came with 16" split rims with clips and I got a set of 4 for $10! They are out there...somewhere!

Hey Mike! Congrats again on all the parts you picked up from the Longhorn's PO. That was really cool to read and see the "artifacts" of your "score".

Are you sure you saw SOLID 16's with those clips? I have seen 16.5's (in 8.25 and I think 9.75), but not 16's unless they are split-rims. BTW, some guy had a set of split rims like ours at the Coeur'd' Alene swap meet last weekend but he wanted 20 bucks for the set. I had to laugh...

catseye66, I am ALMOST sure of it. In fact I just called him and told him that I would pick them up when he gets back from vacation in a couple of weeks. They looked very wide too...if they are 16.5's they will be for sale! I am pretty sure they were 16's since I looked at them twice and was only interested in 16's at the meet since that is what was stock on my '68.

There were so many tire/wheel options available on these trucks that it makes your head swim...15, 16, 16.5, 17, 17.5, 18, 19.5! Widths were 5, 5.5, 6, 6.75, 7, 7.5 7.75, 8, 8.15, 8.75, 9.0, 9.5 and 10. Interesting that in 1968 they did not list a 9.75 as an option in the truck brochure. My roommate ran 12x16.5's on his 3/4 ton 2wd. It looked great and drove without a problem.

69oldie, I am getting CRS disease. Bowtie Bandit has a set of 16.5's with the clips. I don't recall the width but I was not interested since they were 16.5's. You might PM him and see what they are. He also has a set of chrome hubcaps that need some work. They were worse than mine so I passed on them. Good Luck!

These are the original factory wheels, not aftermarket or custom. I have seen them and I saw the 67' that they came off of. Both were in nice shape...

Gary, if you need me to swing by and snap a pic or 4, let me know. I have to call ya anyway so I will talk to you soon...
