What shape is the rear cover?
If it is round, like a salad bowl, it's an HO52. A corp rear with an Eaton diff in it.
If it looks like a dana...it's a dana.

Alaskan, why do you say you have the HO72? 3/4 ton trucks only got the HO52.

I was wondering about this too. I just crawed under there Sunday and wrote down the only info I could find.
It says: "GM55"
There is a series of numbers on the axle tube, but it only says:
Top row:"1 2 3 4 5"
Under that it says: "6 7 8 9 0"

I tried looking everywhere on the Pumpkin and all around. Did I not look close enough?

Yup. If it is 3/4 ton or one ton, and has the full floating axles (pop the hubcaps off, and see if it has a huge hub pokin out of the center of the wheel with 8 or so bolts) then yes, it'll be an HO 52 or HO72 (one ton) eaton/corp rear end.

The 12 bolts hold the ring gear and carrier halves together, there are 10 bolts holding the cover on and 10 bolts holding the third member on.

What rear end is that in the picture?
I have the same rear end in my 1970 GMC C20. 8-Lug, 1/2" Studs. On the top right hand side above the Dif cover it has the same code stamped upside down of C-30255, and on the bottom side of the Dif cover it has the number 60

Or will I have to have them drilled out....?
