i run synthetic and i just changed my oil but i haveno pressure my dad swears it ismy valves btut hes adjusted them a billion times and i dont know what to do when i brake the pressure goes all the way down it doesnt even want to idle in neutral ??????? anyhelp thanx

I see no reason why synthetic oil would make your preasure go down. Could it be a bad oil filter? That happen to me once.

Could be the sending unit mine was pluged and the reading was wrong. the wire could have come off also. Ed ke6bnl

try replacing your oil filter, and I'd run regular dinosaur oil too, synthetic can drop pressure, I've seen it happen, and there might have been a topic on this board about it at one time as well.

mabe try a thicker oil,for say 20w50,what do you have in it now?

I pretty much agree with the others here...go to dino oil, get some thicker stuff, check your guage, and plus... tell your dad that your valves will have absolutly zero effect on your oil bressure.

I agree with the bad filter, since it went down with the oil change, seems logical.

It is true, oil filters will stop up the oil system sometimes, not common, but it happens.

dont the oil filter mount have a by-pass? if it was a bad filter wouldnt the oil just by-pass the filter? I went with synthetic and it lowered the oil pressure, not as dramatically as you stated, but as it heated up it got worse. did you drop the pan? almost sounds like you moved the pickup.

Yes, filter mount does have a bypass...but they don't always work. Seen a couple do this.
Interesting tidbit of info...
In later model chevy small blocks, (not sure of the years thoguh) the by-pass is actually in the filter, and not the block.

i too had my oil pressure drop a good 10-12 psi right after i put synthetic in the new engine but it is still well within acceptable readings.... i was thinking about going with 15W-50 next time instead of 10W-30.... i think it was thickness of the oil and not the fact that it is synthetic that dropped the pressure.... gave me a real good scare at first though.... always a heart stopper when you see that oil pressure gauge move downward LOL

im runnin 10w30 and it was fine at first and now itll stay high when i first drive itfor the day but after about 2 minutes its all the waydown and i know the gauge is fine cause i can feel it stutterin
