found an engine! now what else needs to be checked/replaces while new engine goes in?

allight found a chevy dealership who will sell me the goodwrench 350 motor for $1420 + $100 core charge, and ive got a guy installing it for $500.

now what else should i be checking or replacing while the new engines going in? i was going to have the radiator sent out to be pressure tested etc, getting a new water pump, what else do you guys suggest? i just did a tune up on the ignition system (new plugs wires coil cap rotor) so im thinking im only going to buy new spark plugs since theyre probably gunked up with oil in the two months theyve been in.

plugs, heater hoses, radiator hoses, fuel pump, check all your vacuum lines for cracks or weathering.

Why is there a core charge on a crate motor? They sell them outright. I didn't pay a core charge when I bought mine.

What transmission do you have? Inspect the fly wheel, front seal, etc. If manual check the clutch and throw-out bearing.

Somebody is pullin' your leg. I was just quoted 1350.00 for a crate motor, outright, no core. You might want to think about your starter, specially if you are running headers.

If you are buying the brand new GM 350 Goodwrench motor, why would
there be a core charge? If you are buying a remanufactured motor there
should be. If it is a reman, $1450 sounds a bit high for me. I would talk to
the guy again and see which engine you are getting. I would install all new
belts, hoses, thermostat, water pump, and check the starter teeth on your
flywheel. If they are worn, a new ring gear or flexplate dosen't cost very
much, and it will be easy to install when the engine is out of the truck. Like
WORNBRAKES said, clean the engine compartment really good and give it
a coat of spray paint so it will look a little better. I would go ahead and
clean all of your engine brakets, accessories, intake, and whatever else
for a fresh look under your hood. Good luck!

well as for someone finding it for $1350, im sure there will be different prices everywhere (scoggin dickey was $1475) id rather pay $1420 since this is a local chevy dealership and if anything goes wrong witht he motor the will cover the parts and labor. the engine i was quoted for is the gm goodwrench crate 350 with 3yr/50k warranty and it is a new engine, im not sure why they want the core charge but ill get back to you when i go there monday.

If it is a standard shift a pilot bushing from a old model diesel is a roller bearing, and can be perchased through your chevy dealer.
