Don't own a Jimmy and have never spent too much time looking at the differences. The most obviouse is the grill.

Re: What is the differences between a Jimmy and a Blazer?

Front grill, bezels, and fender badges. Also Jimmy's 70-72 had double headlights. 73 and on had single like the Chevrolet's.

Pretty much the same differences as between a GMC truck and Chevy truck. The front clips are different, badges different. GMC grills are better looking up in the air

Re: What is the differences between a Jimmy and a Blazer?

Now why in the heck would you want to do that? Actually the easiest way to do it is just do the whole front clip. You could reuse the radiator support by cutting off the headlight buckets and welding new ones on. Keep the inner fenders. The hoods and hood latch assembly/supports are the same depending on year (67-68 chevy and gmc the same, 69+ same). The fenders are the same for 67(no marker lights), the 68 chevy fenders and 68 and up GMC fenders are the same. 69-72 chevy fenders won't work on GMC. I guess you see why the easiest way to do it is do the whole clip at one time.

Re: What is the differences between a Jimmy and a Blazer?

It is a fairly common swap. You need to change the fenders, rad support and grill. I've never done it or seen it done, just read about it here on the board...

I changed my Jimmy. I swapped the hood, core support, and grille.

I think the chevy grilles look better. The steering wheel horn button was also different and the tailgates where different.

Re: What is the differences between a Jimmy and a Blazer?

The best way to change a Jimmy into a Blazer is sell the Jimmy to someone that appreciates it and buy a Blazer, since they are about 5x more abundant.

Buy a chevrolet, they are worth more money so be prepared when you do not get much for your Jimmy.

Re: What is the differences between a Jimmy and a Blazer?

Yes Blazer grills are better, but the 71+72 Blazer grills are no match for the 69+70. They have so much more class. It may be sacrelige but I have seriousely debated puting a 69/70 grill on my Blazer. Hey...I'm working on the lame roof rack, the old owner was a canoer. I like boats with engines that I can tow.

With such classic lines as a Blazer/Jimmy you would hate to break it up with an egg crate grill.

Now we're talkin'.

Having a jimmy will make you stand out in the crowd.

I'm not even getting into the grill thing...

Re: What is the differences between a Jimmy and a Blazer?

Yeah, and I don`t buy the "Blazers are worth more" thing. In fact,I believe it`s the other way around,if anything. There is,maybe,a narrower market. But,as with all collectible things, rarity rules! Also, that little old thing called supply and demand.Like 2wd vs 4wd K/5s.The 4wds cost more new,but...You can`t say something is worth less just be cause you don`t want it either.Back around`90 all the truck guys said a`72 was worth the most out of these years. Now,it seems 67/68s are the most sought after. They used to say the small back window made a truck worth less. Now,that is the most sought after. In fact,a`67 small window GMC may be the grandaddy of them all right now.Or,is that my opinion?Oh well...

Re: What is the differences between a Jimmy and a Blazer?

A Chevy in the same condition and year is not worth any more money than a GMC. Just because every one on the band wagon (this board) likes the Chevy Grill better than the GMC doesn't make the entire truck worth more. Personally I like the Chevy and the GMC, I happen to own a GMC and like it more due to the fact that it is mine. My dad owns a 70 K20 and a 72 K10 and I have a 71 K1500, when you look at all three lined up hands down my GMC looks the most aggressive from the front view just something about those four eyes surrounded in all that chrome. The only Chevy grill I prefer over the GMC one is the 67-68 now I really love the look of those Chevy’s when they are paint matched and have all of the correct trim.

Geez Guys,
I hit a soft spot.
Special K, love your conviction, but I too believe the chevrolet grills where better looking...Had the public thought the GMC looked better the availablity today would be the other way around.
I may be mistaken but I dont believe that someone would pay more for an equally restored Jimmy than a Blazer. If you know of someone I suddenly have a Jimmy for sale.

Re: What is the differences between a Jimmy and a Blazer?

More Jimmy pics, as everyone has pointed out the differences are mostly the grill and tailgate. The front fenders won't interchange (as with any GMC to 69-72 Chevy).

I prefer the 67-68 chevy front sheetmetal but I'm keeping the jimmy a jimmy, I've already got a bellybutton...

I personally think vehicle condition is the most important factor. Heck you can't even see the grill from the drivers seat.

When you look at the facts, chevy has always outsold GMC. Not because its better or better liked, because it is sold as a every person vehicle and cheap. GMC is from the TRUCK people, they are built better, my 71 is a heavy half, not an option, it came like that. The Blazer is a weak half ton. Be happy with what you like and quit trashing what other people like. What a vehicle is worth only applies when you get the cash in your hands. Lots of Blazers are not selling for asking prices, just look at ebay.
