Question transmission crossmember relocate?

i just got my 700r4 transmission in my 1970 2 wheel drive blazer this afternoon. I lost a lot of time dealing with the 3 piece crossmember that is rivited and bolts to the frame on both the top and bottom flanges. 4 bolts on each side, 8 total. my question is would anything bad happen if i left out the 2 peices that were riveted that bolt to the top flanges of the frame. Has a frame ever buckled or any cracks resulted from modifying this crossmember. the area is conjested and i'd like to leave those parts out if possible? Any opinions would be appreciated. thanx.

Re: transmission crossmember relocate?

That crossmember is not present on the automatic transmission trucks and blazers. Remove it completely it won't hurt anything. You will be replacing it with an automatic crossmember further back on the frame anyway. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com
