dream on

i've been lurking here a month or so after selling my 63 nova ragtop. before the nova , i drove a SWB 69 , mostly stock , lowered so on so forth . came here looking for another pickup , but lately i've really kinda latched on to the 2wd blazers . SUPER COOL rides i gotta say. so here it is , i'm looking for a 2wd blazer , i would prefer a driver/project but would entertain thoughts of a finished ride if the price is right. i saw the add for the 2wd in louisville ky and dang near threw a hissy fit when i read it was SOLD already . something like that would have been right up my alley....i know ...dream on

Re: dream on

they are out there but they are getting harder to find and big $. There are two on ebay right now (see http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php?t=188702). If you really want one, you'll can expect to travel. Murphy's Law prevents them from being for sale within 1000 miles of anyone seriously looking!

jbon, where in Illinois are you? I have a bro-in-law in Palatine.
I found my 2wd Jimmy in Illinois. It was just East of St. Louis. They're out there, you just have to look hard and act fast when you find one!

Re: dream on

craiglist is good, but it seems to be most popular on the West coast. Autotrader sometimes too. Once in a while dealsonwheels will have one too.
Don't be afraid to look far away. When you find something see if a board member will check it out. I found on in California that I was ready to buy, a board member drove over and took pictures, and ended up saving me a lot of money, that one would have been a huge mistake!

i live just a few minutes south of champaign (100 miles south of chicago). like i said , i'm keeping an eye out for now , if the right deal pops up i'll jump for sure . till then i will probably have a few questions i will be posting sooner or later.

i see a lot of talk about "rocker boxes" . i'm not sure where they are located on the truck . and not sure what to look for if i find a potential sale.

Re: dream on

The rocker boxes are a solid box under the body below the rockers/doors. They are the main structural support for the body (front to back) when the top is off. They are also a common rust point since they trap moisture and dirt.

Other places to watch for rust are the windshield frames, the door pillars and the area around the tailgate.

Re: dream on

jbon, I remove my double wall by myself, but I have four ropes hanging from the ceiling of my garage, and I do one corner at a time.

Re: dream on

I do basically the same thing to remove my top. Four ropes and two 2x4s. One corner at a time.

You won't be able to just lift a top by yourself - single or double. They are heavy akward and damage easy if dropped. Ther are several other methods guys use to remove their tops buy themselves. Probably the most high tech is BobbyK's. He fabricated a custom lift with an electric wench.

Re: dream on

Just my .02 but if you are looking at doing a custom set up on a 2wd you may want to think about buying a cheaper 4x4 and swap over all the parts. By the time you change all the suspention, shocks, bushings, air bags/ lower coils or even a 4 link rear and new front arms you have spent more then converting a 4x4 over. Correct me if I am wronge but most of the parts are almost a bolt on set up if you pick up a rolling truck 2wd frame. Then sell the 4x4 parts axles, tranny and t-case and put that money tward new parts for the project. I know you said you wanted a driver but this is just another option. If you want a stock blazer than yes it is worth spending the extra money and buy a "2wd" blazer. Like I said just my .02
