Window Regulator Swap Out

What is the easiest way to swap out the window regulator in a 88 suburban? My drivers window regulator took a dump. Thanks, BranZ

They would be power windows. I took the panel off and realized this is a little involved. I am looking for some knowledge. BranZ

Re: Window Regulator Swap Out

Well don't know that I have any knowledge to impart except that I changed my drivers door window motor a year ago. I don't remember it being hard. I purchased a new motor (rebuilt) from NAPA. I think it was $45. So take off the door panel and get working. I think all you have to do is remove the power plug from the motor then I think its held in place by two or three bolts. The window does not need to come out and even has spring tension on the assembly so it won't fall down when the motor comes out. You'll need your old motor for a core when you buy the new one.

It really wasn't hard.

Re: Window Regulator Swap Out

The problem I have is the window regulator. The window makes a grinding noise when you try to lower it. Motor seems to be working fine. I have heard that it will come apart if not clamped. BranZ

I don't think you understand, It is the motor making that sound. All you have to do is take off the door panel but leave the switch hooked up and then try and move the window up and down with the switch and you will see the problem. It is the motor. The motor will still work the but gear on it is stripped or where the gear is pressed on the motor shaft is stripped.
