SM 465 shifter installation question

Okay I yanked the shifter on my 4 speed and cannot for the life of me get it back in. The part that gets me is where you have to press on the collar (?) and twist at the same time. I am using my fingers and I am unable to stop my fingers from slipping. Is there a secret to this?????????????????????? It's driving me nuts.

Re: SM 465 shifter installation question

I usually use a set of Channel-locks opened up a ways and laid on their side. Just push down and turn with the pliers.

Re: SM 465 shifter installation question

Push down on it, and try and turn the collar enough to catch on the 2 stubs that hold it in. Then take a rubber-ended hammer and tap it over until it locks. Theres millions of ways you could do it. But after you do it a couple of times, it's real easy.
