Its a gov-lok locker stock in GM rears since the early 80's. Its crap compared to the Eaton or most aftermarket lockers/posis. They are not very strong especially with a lot of power, stick shifts, or big sticky tires. I have one in my 83 El Camino I got out of 86 Monte SS. Fortunately it hasnt broke but I do have one of those heavy duty aluminum rear end covers that has the screws that support the bearing caps.

I'd be surprised if a 305 would spin tires any any circumstances, lol. Definately be hard to do with trying to spin two tires though. My 73 with the stock 350 can spin the one tire pretty easy and thats with a worn out points distributor and a Qjet that only works on the primaries.

I got a 305 in my Blazer and it will spin the smaller winter snow tires I have for it. They are not all that great compared to the eatons though.

Have you done anything to the 305 to get more power? I had a 78 Cutlass with a good running stock 305 and it would hardly do a brakestand and it had a Q-jet. Havent seen too many Monte SS's spin their tires much either.
