How do you know your NP205 needs rebuilt?

Is there one part that wears first, gives you some idea of amount time on it.
I have a 80 205 the gear oil in it looks like new, but I don't know how many miles are on it or it's history. Don't wanna rebuild it if it doesn't need it.

clues?

If it doesn't leak and doesn't make noise, don't worry about it. The only thing I have seen destroy a 205 is the lack of oil---they are pretty bulletproof

Like kwmech said, their pretty much bulletproof. Ive seen 205 completely broken in half and the internals still looked good.

Sounds like maybe just clean-it-up re-seal it and stick it in. I like that.

thanks

If its one for a T350.. just clean it up and put it in.. if its one for a SM465 Muncie 4spd check the adapter sleeve the splines wear out on those..
