How do I install headers?

I wanted to test fit my headers these headers they are L 5423 hooker comp. the hooker guide says it fits blazer/jimmy/Yukon/tahoe 4x4 69-72. I don’t think there’s that much difference, but don’t know. Anyone?
Should I be able to put these on with the motor installed?

Re: How do I install headers?

yep.
Disconnect the battery, make sure your starter is installed and wired.
Have an assistant help you out... a kid over 12 should be able to help. If I remember right, the passenger side has to come up from underneath, while the drivers side can come in from the top. Watch the engine oil dipstick...esp if it is on the passenger side.

Re: How do I install headers?

over the years i've found it helps to have an engine hoist handy and unbolt the engine stands so you can jiggle the engine a bit to get clearance it also helps to have it jacked up on jackstands so you can feed them straight down always disconnect battery and remove the starter too do drivers side first(more difficult)

Re: How do I install headers?

That’s what I thought, I’m trying to get the d side in now, and it seems not to fit. Do you think that this being for a 4x4 and not a 2wd truck has anything to do with this?

And to save a little money--remove your plugs first. (also saves a few cuss words-lol).

Re: How do I install headers?

Ok, it’s the driver’s side that’s giving me fits.
Do you think the 4x4 headers will work?

Using the part finder at Holley's website, they show different P/N's for C & K models...

http://www.holley.com/search.asp

They may fit, but likey would require some persuasion. Good Luck...

Re: How do I install headers?

unbolt the driver side engine tower then lift the engine GENTLY from the drivers side of intake manifold it will give you alot of clearance/you might also try sticking them up from the bottom

Re: How do I install headers?

The headers don’t fit. They hit the “a” arm where it pivots.
Looks like I need to become a site supporter and see if anyone want to buy or trade.
Oh well.

Re: How do I install headers?

interesting... My first headers (of an unknown brand) were off an 85 K/5.
Is it close enough that you can just dimple it?

I looked at that…but it’s a good 1.5~2 inches off. This is on the drivers side I didn’t even try the passenger side.
Thanks for the suggestion though.

Re: How do I install headers?

your truck is 2wd?

If you need them, i have a set of Hooker longtubes that have been sitting for the last 6 years in the box. I bought them for a project i no longer have.
I'll go out now and look at the model number

I was gonna throw these in the for sale section, but i'll give them to you cheap if you want them.
PM me if interested.
