Kick Panel Speakers

I am aware that there are custom kick panels that fit our trucks. Some are fiberglass, some are metal, some people custom make themselves. Most of the ones you can buy actually fit nicely while others are "cheap" & don't fit at all. I am not too sure I want to use these panels.

I was curious if anyone on here has cut holes in their existing steel kick panel with the air vent and mounted some 5.25" or 6.5" speakers. I am planning on doing this, cutting a hole in each panel & mounting some 5.25" speakers, but would like some other peoples opinions on this before I do it. Thanks

Re: Kick Panel Speakers

I personally wouldn't cut sheet metal. If I were going to, I would completely cut out the vent and shave that areap, then fab up a couple of sheets of MDF glued together and shape them to angle the speaker appropriately.

If you're gonna do it, might as well do it "right". Half ass job == half ass truck.

Re: Kick Panel Speakers

what are you after? good, crisp, mids and hi's need to be faceing somewhat in the direstion you are ( i.e. angled up towards ya) that wont be accomplished by cutting a hole and facing them towards your feet... also if your going with a componet set up (5 1/4 w/ tweeter and crossover) i dont think that'll sound as good as it potentially should...

I bought some with the pioneer 140WATT each and they fit and sound great. Here are some pics that show how they look.

Re: Kick Panel Speakers

if you put speakers in the kickpanel, make sure to fabricate something to keep things from coming down the cowl and onto the back of the speaker

You can buy baffles to prevent that. I think a company named XTC makes them.

Re: Kick Panel Speakers

I'll see if I can fabricate something like on the posted link on here http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=141614

If it doesn't work out then I'll just do it the way I orginally intended, cutting a hole for the 5.25" speaker in the kick panel, but with some kind of baffle or plate behind protecting the speaker from debris & water. I will definately make it sit flush and look good though, nothing on my truck is really 1/2 ass.

Anyway, I have a pair of 6.5" speakers & a single 10" subwoofer behind the seats already. I just wanted to install some speakers in the front for a "surround sound" effect. Thanks for giving me that link & the opinions.

Re: Kick Panel Speakers

dont take it the wrong way. but cuting a hole int he truck to put speakers in it. IS HALF ASS. thats the easy grosse way to do it. make some speaker boxes or buy some made for the kick panel area. my 2cents.

Re: Kick Panel Speakers

RodDoors has prefab speaker pods for use when making your own panels... they have many sizes, and you can choose if the pod mounts from behind the panel, or on top.

then you cover the panel with the fabric of your choice.
