Progress on preparing to pull 454

With the help of Blazerboy got the front end sheetmetal all off the donor truck. Looks like that is going to be a big help in getting the engine out. Can't wait to get the 454 out to start cleaning it up and putting on goodies!

I feel sorry for you. You're doing all that dang work, just for a whimpy 454. Why don't you just drop the truck off here, and I'll take that POS off your hands?

LOL

Looking good.

The engine from the 89 1 ton will be going in my 69. Finally getting to replace the tired 307. I'm pretty excited. I've already got the tbi setup sold and the Dana 70 rearend is probably sold also. A few more parts to sell and I will have the 454 almost cost free. Pretty sweet.

I'm going to go with an Eldebrock Performer manifold, performer carb, new HEI, headers and probably electric fans.

I will be using the hydraulic clutch from the 89 along with trying to use the hydroboost brake system. The 89 also has a oil cooler and auxuliary electric pusher fan that I will use.

68 Stepside, if you were in my area, I would bring it right over!

I'd rethink your intake thing Mark. The '89 one ton will be a peanut port head. Go with the Weiand peanut port intake which is the same as the Mercruiser intake. PAW has them for $150, but I'm sure Summit or Jegs has or can get them for about same $. Everything else sounds good, though. I ended up buying a set of passenger car heads for my 427 so I can use a regular Performer intake.

Mike C, thanks for the input on the intake. I always like to hear lots of info before I make a purchase.

It would sure be nice to be able to go with the right/better heads from the start but I'm sure that is cost prohibative since I'm forking out a lot of change to do all this other stuff now.

So the Eldebrock intake ports won't match up right and will kill flow, is that the problem?
