World Class smallblock 427

I was going to build my own motor but ... but... 520 horsies from a small block. Anybody have any feedback about World Products smallblock 427? Its just a smallblock

Only a small block?Run a small block 427 and tell me it`s "only" a small block...A 572,only a few thousand more?Bigger is awesome,at a cost.It`s cool to see a what a little rat can do,though.

I read an article on World products recently but can't remember where.
The guy who wrote it said when he got the block (not 427) that it was so distorted that it couldn't be machined by his local shop. As is with this site, many jumped on that thread and sided with the problems of distortion in World's blocks.
I would probably not sign off on accepting a World block until after it was checked out by a qualified machinist.
That said... 427cu. in a small block would make me think twice. Talk about a sleeper... and what... about 200-300 pounds lighter than a big block? That would be an equalizer to my big rat.

I have heard some issues as well about Motown blocks, I ordered up a custom 427 short block from Speedomotive, completely forged, fully balanced, with them also ballancing the harmonic balancer and Flywheel and added my own cylinders heads, cam, etc. I am easily pushing out more than the motwn setup and don't use anywhere as much fuel as a big block uses.

I ran a motown 427 in my old Nova...it wasn't a crate, but I used many of the parts that they are using in the crate motor. I didn't have any problems with the block at all. I built the motor in 02 and ran it for 2 years before I moved up to a 496 BBC. The motor still runs in a sand drag car....it has never been even refreshed. I ran 10.79@127mph, all motor and drove it to the track and back home.

well im wondering what kind of block speedomotive used must have been a dart or gm bowtie. becuase the only way to build a 427 out of a regular deck 400 is to go hi compression witch is not very streetable, more for race you see the long stroke pushes your ring package so close to the top of the piston that you need a dome to make the ringlands stay intack unless you go to a tall deck block witch adds some weight sbc and bbc are not that far apart in weight aluminim heads and light weight crank in a bbc will relly even up the score not to mention that the engine will be alot milder fo the same hp/tq, most build sbc cause of price but when you step up to 427/434/454/472 no you talking about money oh buy the way why get a crate 427 when you can get a 472

They use Dart blocks, they have both tall and standard height decks, 4 & 4.125" bores and th 4.125 block can be bored .060 safely, it can also be punched out to a 454 just like the motown 454 (4.250) is. I used the standard height and instead of using the 4" stroke and 4.125 bore I went with the 3.850 stroke with 4.185 bore. They do full prep on the block including checking the deck height for piston matching for the compression you want, tell them what size cc chambers you are going to use and the pistons will be cut to the compression you are wanting. If you going to thrash on it don't use Hyper pistons, the top ring grove is too close to the top of the piston, they also make sure the piston is 0 deck. They also have a 2 year waranty

my dad just had a 434 small block built for his 67 nova. car is awesome! backed by a five speed tremec and ford 9 inch. its a dart block with brodix heads. it was quoted at 620 hp on pump gas. ill post some pics as soon as i can get some.

Having my roots in the circle track field, I would have to say SMALL BLOCK ALL THE WAY. As for the motown blocks for that matter any of there engine parts that is, I have built and ran 4 engines useing the motown blocks a 358 two 377's and a 415 no problems whatsoever. And from dealing with them them through my supplier if there were any problems they would resolve any issuses they may have FULL REPLACEMENT. For the original question the 427Small Block 520HP crate It carries a Two year 24,000 warranty That is hard to get with a true perfomance engine! And they make an all aluminum version that weighs ony 355 pounds,
You would have to leave something off of a big block all together to make it that light. IMO unless your building for a specific application like circle track with special needs as I was. The motown based crates are the way to go. They are not $$ freindly but worth it IMO!

i think i need to go for a seasoned block im going for a 383 so it is possible to use the stock casting for that , the thing is i have the engine build in the states and then shipped to europe if i get anny problems after that i need to schip it back and forth for the waranty and thats about 800 bucks alone besides the fact it will spent up to 1 month at sea before the shop gets it and the same back i would be motorless for 3 months at least
