Question Chevy resto Package

I was wondering who of you order and got a resto package from Chevy. I got mine this week and it wasn't what I expected. Matter of fact I think they may have goofed. The one I got covers everything but the trucks. Is this what it is supposed to be or think they shippped me the car one instead of truck.

Thanks

I got one last fall. It includes a bunch of information about different models, engines, transmissions, frames, etc. Also it lists in detail all the options available. Mine only pertains to pickups, el camino, and trucks. Also included a booklet to help in finding resto parts.

Sounds to me like they goofed.

I have a few, they were all awsome except the '70 model.
They goofed on yours though it sounds like.

resto information

Where do you get the kit you're talking about. With as many different components I've found on mine, it would be a help.
Thanks, TF

I agree with Longhornmail about the '70 resto package. There was practically NOTHING in it about the C/20, so it was of little value to me. I'm glad to hear that the rest of the packages were better.

I got one for my '69 Chevelle and it was stricktly for this year Chevelle. On the front is says 1969 Chevelle so no mistaking it.

Maybe GM is making some changes and grouping things together?

I still can't figure out why they do this for free. Mine was about 3/4" thick and had to cost a bit to mail. It's not often you get something for free in this day.

Customer relations? Maybe if you have an older Chevy, they think you'll buy a newer Chevy if GM treats you right? Probably a carryover from when good customer service actually influenced a corporation's tactics.

I ordered one in May for my 72 Cheyenne10 and it has never showed up. Call 3 times first 2 weeks in June to straighten things out. They decided to send another and said it'd be here in a week... that was about August 15. NOTHING. I think I'll wait awhile and start all over with them.

Here's the info of where to get the resto pack...
http://www.chevytrucks.org/tech/restpak.htm
They goofed on mine and sent 2 for the old chevy and nothing for the trucks. I think it had brochures to buy new cars and a big list of old GM parts vendors.

Chevy Resto Pack

They GOOFED!
I ordered a set for my 66 & 68. What I got first time was for Impala/Bel-Air/Caprice, correct year. Write to the address that sent you the info. They will resend the correct material. Mine took about ten working days to get. Info is Year Model specific. It covered standard equipment and options for C10 Fleetside, Stepside, Chasis-Cab & Cowls. Also for Panels and Suburban Carryalls. Also included infor for K10's, C20's, Longhorns, K20's and C30's. Includes all the variations of engine combos and transmission combos and options available combos.

Good Luck,
Joe

I ordered one of these today. I had to jump through a few hoops with the "what are you talking about?" and "we don't have that" and "let me connect you to the parts department" before they finally figured out that I had indeed called the right number and they did indeed have what I was looking for . To their credit, they were extremely courteous... just didn't know about the kit.

Hopefully the Impala/Bel-Air/Caprice one won't show up in the mail in a few weeks

Kenneth

I dunno if it will work differntly or not, but you can do it through chevy's web site

www.chevrolet.com

Go to contatc us section in customer service. You'll fill out a form. You'll have to enter "silverado" cuz they don't list old names. Put in your VIN plus "x" at the end to fill out the blansk (I had to add five for my 70). When it asks you about a topic, select not shown. You can then type a message asging for the Restoration Packet for your vehicle.

You'll get an email back from them the next day or two. Mine just acknowledged they got my request and were sending one.

In csase you are not aware, they are not done by Chevy. They have this being done by a thrid party vendor and thats why it gets lost in trasnlation or just lost.

If you need the number it 1-800-222-1020 ( am to 11 eastern)

I couldn't find the original thread again, mostly just to lazy to look that hard, but thanks to "new69owner" as he provided all this info in an older thread.

I went through the same thing!!! I almost gave up. I think I was on the phone for 45 minutes. Maybe they do this on purpose?

I guess that's the price you pay. Hmmm...not free after all then? :p

Kit arrived yesterday. It's the right one. Woohoo It's not quite what I imagined it would be but it's certainly nice to have, and especially since it was compliments of GM Corp.

Some of the pages didn't pass through the copy machine very well so some of the edges of things are cut off... but like I said... it's not bad at all, and especially for free.

Thanks GM,

Kenneth

I requested mine through the Chevrolet web site (www.chevrolet.com). I selected the "Contact Us" menu, and selected "Email Us" link. Here they ask you to select a category. I picked the "I am a current owner and have a question, concern or comment" category.

Then you're sent to a form which asks you a bunch of info, inlucing your VIN #. Since our VIN numbers are short (they're now 17 characters) you have to sorta cheat on this one. I entered the VIN of my truck plus 5 "X" characters.

Also, the type of vehicle obviously won't have "C20" in the list, so I picked Silverado, because there wasn't anything else. In the message just describe that you've picked the only viable options, and you're really looking for restoration information on your truck. State the year, and model type with options.

You'll get an answer to your email along with a rep. name. They should send you a packet in 4-6 weeks.

Be ready to NOT be shocked when it shows up though. It's info that you might already have in your build manual, your chasis shop manual, or info you've gotten off the web already...

Will this work for GMC trucks also? Or is it just a Chevy thing?

I tried it through the internet and in ten days i I received ..ta da,... the poackage again. All exciteted till I opened it and found it was 1980 trucks...not 1970. So it's off agaoin. Supposedly they'll be sending me another one. Guess we'll look and see. At this rate I may have the history of every year of chevy truck and car before I get the 70 trucks...

But I did like the internet method better than the phone way. Took about half the time, but noether were that long.
