I've caught the bug!! let me know if I am nuts!

Let me know guys & gals if I am nuts. After getting to this point on my project with my frame and suspension almost all back together I have and the motor and trans close to being set in I think I might chop this thing down to a swb. I have been looking through all the pics I can find if I want a true hot rod cruiser I like the swb better. The box is not an issue because the one I have is junk anyway. Give me your input please am I crazy?

Re: I've caught the bug!! let me know if I am nuts!

I like longbeds just as much I as like shortbeds, but if I could go back in time and buy a brand new one it would be a short bed. Less weight, better turning circle. The LWB will give you a more cadillac type ride though. Today, I will take either.

If you're going to have to buy all new sheet metal for a bed, it couldn't hurt to do the SWB conversion.

Keep it the way it came. I wish I had at least one long bed instead of two short beds. Can haul more anything. Kerry

It sounds to me that you may always be unhappy with the final outcome if you don't shorten it.

Thats what keeps running through my mind. If I'm going to do it I think now is the time before I get any farther.

I shortened mine & so far I'm not sorry. I'm in the same boat as you though. Now that I have the cab set back on, motor & tranny installed, firewall and interior painted I think I want to chop it.... Oh well, I think we're all a little nuts...

Re: I've caught the bug!! let me know if I am nuts!

Sorry but I do think you are nuts for wanting to chop down a nice finished LWB frame! Should have done it before paint I'm glad I am not the only one to chop these apart for SWB's. Frame is next along with the flip kit and front drop.

I think you forgot to chop the frame though Are you doing it the way glock wrote about or another method? I was reading up on the Early Classic tech has a nice write up to walk you through. It looks almost too simple.
Thanks for all the support.

Re: I've caught the bug!! let me know if I am nuts!

I have 2 LWB's and 1 SWB and I like both. It's all in what you want. I'm building one of the LWB's into a Yenko Muscle Truck and leaving it long. You go ahead and cut yours down because that will make mine stand out a little more. It's fun to be differant.

It depends if he did it with bags or a static drop. I dropped mine with 2 1/2" drop spindels and 2" springs on the front and 5" drop springs on the back. Mine looks about the same except for the differance in rim sizes. The truck is apart now getting a frame up with bags this time.

I don't remember the exact amount but between $500.00 and $700.00 dollars and that was 4 years ago.
