Rear Disc brakes by Blackbirds Custom

Hi Everyone,

I want rear disks only because of the "bling" factor and the wheels I want to buy. Do the calipers Blackbird uses look okay?

So, does anyone know if they are going to run another $350 special? I didn't own my truck last time and they gave a teaser about running it again in the spring. Well, spring time is here...

Maybe if we get enough people... anyone else interested in rear disks?

Blackbird is a board vendor and I've heard nothing but good things about their kits. Here is the link.

Do you need to change out the master cylinder when you put rear discs on?

Re: Rear Disc brakes by Blackbirds Custom

I've looked @ alot of these 'kits' in my research & there's one common complaint I have w/these companies..... why isn't the rotor size/type listed in the parts descriptions?

It sure would be nice to know what size rotor I was looking at.

Drink once said that they could not "Publish" all of the spec's or you might
just be able to go out and get all the stuff yourself, buisness is buisness.

TSM has good kits.
You can buy weld on caliper mounts from several places.
From what i have seen BlackBird stuff is expensive not that for some people its not worth it.

If you PM the maker of Blackbird he will tell you the OD of the rotors. I did this a while ago and found out, although I have forgotten by now.

Re: Rear Disc brakes by Blackbirds Custom

all of the aftermarket caliper brackets i have seen [ i'm not saying all but what i have and others i've seen] support the caliper on just the thickness of the bracket un like factory brackets that support the caliper in at least two points where they slide. when i do my next truck i will use a set of factory brackets from either a eldorodo or a 4wd front. the brackets i've seen are suitable for a template forcutting the arc on whatever set of factory brackets you chose and nothing more imo

Is this so you would know if your wheel would fit over the disk or do you want to make sure it's bigger than a doughnut?

Both .

I would be interested in 12" rear discs.... nothing smaller.

By converting to rear disks, does anyone know how much if at all does it move the rear wheel outward?

Re: Rear Disc brakes by Blackbirds Custom

i guess this might be a little off topic but i purchased the rear disk kit from classic performance products (cpp). i am very happy with the whole kit & they seem to work really well. i paid alot more then the sale price that you guys are mentioning, but the kit was very easy to install, no fab work needed at all. for the price that you guys are mentioning though, unless there is alot of fab work needed, i would be interested as well!!!

that is avery good price....

when you figure out where to get them let me know. I have been looking for a "big" brake set-up for the rear.

I found on another thread where Drink posted the size and the disks are 11 55/64, so just shy of a 12 inch rotor.
