Radio Static Noise(HELP)
My friends new stereo has a bad static noise. The noise is there when the car is running but not just when the switch is in the on position. This is through his amp, not the regular speakers. Can somebody please help us.

Try finding a better ground on the amp, if that don't work, a noise filter that goes on the main power wire will fix it.

You are getting either electrical interference or having issues with a "good" ground. Did he run the RCA wires next to power wires? if he did that's a big no no. Aside from that running any sort of powered lines near a rca is bad. hope this helps some. good luck.

Yep electrical interference is a biatch. I've wired up a few vehicles and some just have some inherent line noise, in those cases it dont matter how you run the wire, just gotta get a line filter. For others you can just re-route things. Right now the only problem i'm having is my dang subs are going outa phase when i have the amp at anything above minimum power for the subs (4 channel) funky stuff and i dont get it since they are 4ohm subs. Going outa phase bites.

What kind of amp does he have? The cheap ones tend to pass the ignition noise through like that. Buy a quality amp, and no problems.

I just solved this same problem with my '69 Chevelle yesterday. Turned out that I forgot to add a ground to the case of the stereo. The '69 Chevelle has the plastic dash where the stereo mounts so it was only getting grounded through the speakers.
Worth a shot anyhow. Mine sounds great now! ------------------ 63 Impala*66 Chevelle SS*69 Chevelle*69 C10 Stepside*71 Cheyenne 20*72 Chevelle Parts for sale: http://www.angelfire.com/trek/mr409/items4sale.html
