Question What in the world is this, and what does it do?

This was in my #1 cylinder spark plug threads with the spark plug screwed into it like in the attached pictures. I never noticed it before, but when changing the plugs tonight I noticed that plug stuck out a little further than the rest. Upon further inspection, I found it and removed it. Engine runs good both before and after removing it.

No pics? Sounds like an antifouler, used to keep carbon from building up on the electrodes on engines with worn rings.

It is an anti-fouler. I have used them for years in the engine on my Ford Jubilee tractor.
