radiator catch can ideas

i need pics/ideas of radiator catch can/overflow because i'm going to try to take my truck to the track next weekend.

my truck has a/c so i cant put it on the passenger side of the radiator and i have my electric fan box on the driver's side so i cant mount it there. i would like to use one of those plastic ones from summit but dont know how to mount it. how about the factory ones? arent they on the fender?

I added a catch can from some type of import car. It's small, and I mounted it beside the battery. It's on the fender side and is mostly out of view and bolts to the battery box. Passes tech with no problem. Just go to a wrecking yard and see what's available.

I got a nice big bottle from an 82 Camaro. Mounts nicely on the pass. side inner fender, contoured back and all. Sorry, not the best pic but you get the idea.

Did GM ever offer them as stock? Mine has one mounted on the driver's side, on the core support...I doubt it's stock, but it looks old enough to be so. *shrug* It works.

My brother in law is to lazy to put one on, so he just has a pepsi can zip tied to radiator support with a hose going into it. Lazy way of doing it but it's legal at the track.

Took mine off!

I have one of those aluminum ones I just took off this summer. Cant say if it worked or not. I had it mounted on the outside of the radiator support to the passenger side and didnt care for the fact that u could see it through the grill. It was about 15" long.

Project1970, The coolant overflow bottles were a dealer installed option in the later years (probably 71-72), that could be what you have.

He uses a glass bottle? If the glass is cold and hot fluid goes into the bottle, it could shatter. That would be a bigger mess than coolant on the ground. I'd stick with plastic or the pepsi can.

I suppose you're right, it could shatter, but he's had it on there for a year+ and survived a winter even... maybe he lucked out and got a sturdy bottle. But it probably is a good idea to use something that won't shatter.

I bought mine from PepBoys for about 8 bucks. Came with a wire basket to mount it, clear vinyl tubing, and some micky-mouse hose clamps (which I tossed & substituted real ones for). Not the prettiest, but functional.

Here's my first attempt to attach a photo...

My 72 Truck has the Dealer installed overflow bottle. It's mounted on the passenger side inner fender. It is fairly large, looks like it would hold about one gallon.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
