Front Fender Alignment

What am I doing wrong? I have my frame perfectly level. I have the bed and cab (57) perfectly level. The bottom of the cab lines up with the bed step. When I mount my aftermarket front fenders the rear edge lines up with the door but the body line is pointing up hill on the fender. I ran a piece of 1/4" masking tape from the back of the cab right on the body line all the way to below the head light. I even put a level on the tape just to make sure. The body line is definately going up hill about 3/4" from the door forward. The only way I can fix it is to raise the cab or lower the front of the fender but then the gap won't be right at the door-fender joint. I'm "assuming" this is due to them being replacement fenders and I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make it right. Help!

Re: Front Fender Alignment

well, in my shop i would take a good look at it then probably lower the front ( with the hood on for proper front gapping) then useing tape, run a line on the back of the fender as a gap line, remove the fender, shave off the extra, or cut & weld if needed (the edge of fender that is now the new gap) allowing 1/2 inch extra metal (to be folded like the origanel behind fender) takeing each step slowly, and measure alot, not to over cut.......hope this makes sence......max.

Re: Front Fender Alignment

You want to align for body lines first and gaps second. Easier to fix a door gap than to change the bodyline. When the line is straight you should have a gap that widens as it goes from the bottom of the fender to the top. One way to fix would be to slice the rear of the fender edge about 1/2 inch in leaving just enough uncut to hold the piece to the fender and then pull the edge into alignment and fill the resulting gap in the fender. That method leaves the factory edge but does involve more (careful) welding

Thanks for your replys. What you are suggesting is what I figured I would have to do to make it right. No easy way out this time!
