Home with the k5

Left at 9 am and got home at 6 or so.$100 of fuel and 400 total miles or so later and I'm home with the k5 sitting in the shop.
I took a few pics while loading it in KY and will take some pics of it here tomorrow. It does run,and drive. It has a B&M shifter which isn't my favorite as I would prefer a regular shifter but since the 4spd/205 is going in soon it wont matter. The motor runs good, smokes a little but it does run.It starts right up and found out while driving around in the gravel it has a posi rear axle
It has ok bucket seats in the front (Utility Style) and a decent shape rear seat with all the brackets.Single wall top in need of some minor repair and the hatch is ok.The rear glass needs replaced as does the windshield. The windshield frame needs replaced,as usual,as do the rocker boxes.I have another set of doors for it,and a un cut front clip on the way...I think it's fixable, and thats what its gonna be,fixed.
BTW,that bumper which wont be on there much more,is made from 1/4" thick steel In the back is a set of vintage M/T valve covers that might end up on this,we'll see

Re: Home with the k5

Glad to hear it runs, sounds like you stole it for the price you previously posted?? You gonna try to keep that motor running or are you gonna rebuild it, if so what are you gonna put in it?

Re: Home with the k5

I consider it a steal considering parting it out,I would come out ahead so I think I did ok..First thing to be done is to fix and weld in the windshield frame, and adress the rest of the rust issues and probably just cheaply paint it,probably flat black. As soon as I get my parts truck home, the SM465 4spd and NP205 from it are going in this. Then a 4" lift,or 6" lift, and 35 " tires. Then build a motor for it,I dont know what I will build yet.I'd like to build a 355 for it but might go with a 383.Time will tell.Everything added up,I have about $550 in it.I consider that a good price considering I've payed more for less,before...

Re: Home with the k5

It`s already flat black, why paint it?Does it have a t-case/trans in it or is that the torsion box hangin?Looks like a CST,unless the door`s not original. They must have swapped the seats out.Well, one thing for sure...you can say you have a Blazer now.

I havent looked at the glovebox label yet but I dont think it's a CST.It doesn't have the chrome t-case shifter like the CST's I've seen but don't know.It might be.It does have the original turbo 350/np205 hangin down, that's what that box looking object is.I've forgotten how low the drivetrain sits on these when they arent lifted...I think I'll have to lift it before I get under it to inspect it all since I barely fit under there

I've got a 355 in mine, it's enough power....but if I did it again I'd go with a 383
