Carb Spacer?

Since i will be replacing the base gasket on my carb, i was thinking about getting a 1" , 4-hole spacer for it. Would the spacer give me any more power, mpg, or is it just a waste of money? Which is better, the plastic or allumium spacer? My engine specs are in my signature....

torque

They help to build torque just like a high rise intake, same concept my race car buddy swares by them on a dirt track. I would go with an aluminum spacer as oposed to plastic simply because of how well alum. disapates heat.

I installed a 2 inch, 4 hole, plastic spacer mainly to insulate the carb and prevent the fuel from boiling, but as an added bonus, I also got a noticeable increase in torque on the bottom end.

It is a crap shoot really.
Car Craft has done a couple shoot outs on them, and they found that some are worth quite a bit, while others don't do squat. The funny thing is, the ones that don't do squat on one motor, will work awsome on another motor.
I had one at one time on an internally stock motor, and it did in fact make more torque, and helped my MPG.
