What did you get done this weekend, 10-21-07

Haven't done a whole lot lately but I did manage to wash the truck and put a coat of wax on it today.

What did everyone else do?

Swapped stock springs for 4 in lowering ones on the rear.Took the wheel wells out and started cleaning them for paint.Removed heater box and cleaned up ready to install new heater core.Other than that just loafing since i've been working 60-65 hours a week lately.

Try to remove bed but I don't have help. I jack the bed slowly, inch after inch! I look this week to rent a cherry picker.

Re: What did you get done this weekend, 10-21-07

threw some primer onto the truck. well, the pieces of the truck. it turned out pretty good, for just being implement primer.

we were going to throw some of the Oliver green onto it today, but the primer didn't cure very well, prolly due to being kinda cool. but thats ok, because it showed alot of imperfections that i can work out this week before we give it another coat next weekend-ish.

for more pics head on over to my build thread. . see my sig.

Re: What did you get done this weekend, 10-21-07

It was clean out the shop weekend for me. I had to get that old boat out to make some room.

I built some shelves and rearrainged some other stuff and gave it a good sweeping.

Now I'll have the room I need to tear down my Panel this winter.Gotta start that project pretty soon.

I still have some work to do on my shop. The interior still need more insulation and sheetrock. And pegboard. Everything above 4' is pegboard. I have almost enough sheetrock to finish the ceiling. That dang boat was in the way of hanging the 'rock, so now I can finish that stuff. I almost have all the parts to hook up the heating system, too. A couple hundred more dollars and I'll have a heated shop. I can't wait for that, since it snowed all day Saturday.

Friday and part of Saturday I helped EdB with tracking down a wiring problem on his 94. Saturday also involved servicing the daughters' Bonneville, Saturday and Sunday I did get some time on the 70. Worked on tweaking the doors so they fit better.

Replaced the instrument cluster with a new one with rebuilt gauges and polished original lense. Installed a universal windshield washer pump to original switch. Now the gauges look good and the washer squirts.

Re: What did you get done this weekend, 10-21-07

Saturday we went over to the Fall Festival in Piedmont and checked out the cars and trucks at the Car Show.

Sunday morning I started checking over the '77 GMC 6500 tilt cab dump truck we bought Tuesday to see what needed to be done to it to make it reliable.

In the afternoon I went to my son's to help him set up his new computer and check-out the 402 engine he bought Saturday.

Re: What did you get done this weekend, 10-21-07

I lifted my 350 up with an ancient chain hoist(that my great grandpa installed) to drain the fluids and start tearing it apart and the chain sliped crushed the five gallon bucket and there was oil everywhere, I just got my hand out from underneath it, I really need a cherry pickerand engine stand that ancient hoist works great but it take like 10 minutes to get up a foot

Pulled the front hubs & drums apart on the C-20.....she had rivited lining! I wonder if its the original shoes??

The list got pretty long on parts that need to be rebuilt/replaced discovered this weekend...

RH U-Joint(broken), inner & outer axel's (yokes were broken), spindle seals, hub seals, wheel cylinder, 1/2 drag link (would not take any grease even after light heat & new zerk), LH Ball joints (lower is shot), all shoes, drums need to be cut, adjuster kits & springs.

new list of parts to order!

Re: What did you get done this weekend, 10-21-07

Painted my battery tray w/ POR-15 + Rustoleum primer + rustoleum flat black. Did the same to washer bottle harness. De-rusted and primered back of radio delete plate for Billsbowtie (just sold it to him). Also polished the billet grille I just sold to him. Then drilled the rivets out of the L & R brackets on the '71 outer grille I sold to Luvlegs. Primered and painted them flat black. Oh yeah, and I farted. A lot.

I got to the bottom of the knocking in my new engine and booked an appointment for GM to fix it.

Currently reading up on tuning Holley 4150 carbs so I can make some adjustments.

I installed hood back on and washed it. Today I finally filled the tank all the way up for the first time since I bought it and put some miles on it. I am having too much fun with it. Right rear tire just goes up in smoke. I will be getting a locker for it soon. I still need to find out what gears are in it.
