Roadside help...
If you guys were to build a roadside "first aid" kit for your truck what parts extra parts would you include? just trying to start thinking about this because i plan to take my truck on some long road trips in the fall and id like to be a bit prepaird. so all the guys that have been driving and working on these trucks for years feel free to chime in with what you think would be good to store in the tool box of one of these trucks...

cellphone and credit card// water/ basic handtools/small floor jack/ pieces of wood 2x4 and 4x4's// a length of sturdy rope or chain/ duct tape and wire/ candy bars/small poly tarp// all are good but the best is to spare no expence in the upkeep and updating of your truck

Set of points and condensor or ignition module.(Swap out using this one and replacing at tune up time).Small roll of wire,electrical and baling.Electrical tape.Hammer,and blow mold tool kit.I think I gave 50-60 bucksa at Sears for the one i carry.Duct tape.Pipe for extension on lug wrench.Just some stuff I usually carry.

Flat tire repair kit and a few cans of fix a flat. A flashlight is useful as well...

Also, I keep my old points and condenser. I had the wire break on a brand new condenser and replaced it with the old one on the side of the road.
It helps to have a blanket to throw over the engine when you have to lay on top of it. |

Tow strap, jumper cables, toilet paper, carb kit, voltage regulator, fuel pump, starter brushes & bendix, alternator brushes & bearing, electric wire, non-electric wire, electrical tape, duct tape, Permatex liquid & #2, wheel bearings & some grease, spark plugs, points & condenser (or HEI module), 12v droplight, flashlights (big & small), fuel hose, vacuum hose, zip ties, multimeter, timing light, WD-40, Break-Free CLP, ATF, motor oil, WSW fluid, propane torch, solder, jack stands, air tank, 12v compressor, old towels, cheap coveralls, a chunk of refrigerator box, big trash bags, umbrella, the list goes on and on.

QUOTE] It sounds like your dad was one heck of a smart man!  i haul parts for the salvage yard i work for and id always rather have them overly strapped to the flatbed than underly strapped. one of the guys i work with had a full size ford van bumper fly off the truck at 70mph once..... didnt hit anybody thank god but the bumper was a bent up wreck!
