Clutch Questions?

Hey guys,

I have a few questions regarding my clutch, and those that can replace it.

First, the clutch on my 307 is an 11 inch. Will a 12 inch work with the fly wheel, if i replace the clutch and pressure plate?

Second, if the 12" will work, can a 12" from like, a '95 Chevy, work in my '69? They're both small blocks...same bell housing..fly wheel...etc.

Now, the explanation. I'm low on cash. my clutch is going to hell in a handbasket, to put it frankly. My dad works at the area salvage yard, and today a '95 Chevy came in with a good 12" clutch. he can get it pretty cheap, and save me lots moneys. (I know...I know...i shouldn't use a used clutch. but, gotta do whatcha gotta do.)

So, ANY input would be appreciate regarding the situation.

Thanks in advance guys.

-Sam.

Re: Clutch Questions?

My 69 came originally with a heavy duty clutch setup and when I converted it to the lighter duty (got cramps in my legs) that had a smaller clutch diameter, I had to replace the flywheel, clutch and plate. The bolt pattern of the pressure plate was different on the heavy duty, larger diameter clutch and pressure plate.

Re: Clutch Questions?

Ah, thanks 68gmsee!

Thats just the info i needed.

I'll order a clutch disc from autozone on wednesday then for my 307, and hope that my pressure plate isn't screwy. I don't think it is, just the clutch is so worn down that it's not grabbing good.

thanks again. i really appreciate it.

Re: Clutch Questions?

I did this exact swap - my 67 250/3sp came with an 11" clutch & I was able to replace it with a 12" out of a new diesel by merely changing the throwout bearing, clutch & the pressure plate. The clutch dude who sold it to explained that the 10" need their own setups (flywheel, pressureplate, etc) but the 11s & 12s share the same flywheel, just a different clutch plate & pressure plate. i know its extra money, but ya gotta get the flywheel ground. the 11" left a bit of wear that the 12 will be bigger than. Its cheap - like 15-25 dollars.
