Re: 68 clip on 00 silveraldo

It's interesting. The paint scheme kinda obscures alot of what has been done there. It looks like the only thing that is '68 there is the grille itself. Fenders are 2000 stock. The hood also appears to be stock from a 1 ton truck with the "power dome" hood. Maybe a bit of custom work on the bumper as well?
For the work that went in, might've been easier to just photo shop the pic.

I'd always thought the 99-02 trucks (especially the HD's with the tall hood) looked a lot like a "modern interpretation" of a 67/68.

They have a similar belt line and the sides are shaped similarly. The cab/body "rolls in" at the top right below the windows, the hood "curves in" towards the front like the 67/68 and is peaked. Take out the plastic grill inserts and the grills look similar.... I love both my trucks. I think they're a couple of the best looking Chevy's ever built.

Hmmm. I've got a 2000 Z71.......

Re: 68 clip on 00 silveraldo

I like the way it looks. He did just enough to give it a different look with out going to far. I like that he just used the grill itself and made the new hood and fenders work with the 68 grill. If he would have used the entire front clip it would have been fuggly. Nice and simple. If you did not know what either truck looked like new I don’t think you would even notice anything not flowing and I think that is key to a successful modification, that it is not apparent.

Re: 68 clip on 00 silveraldo

We're each entitled to our own opinion, right? While I can appreciate the time and effort that went into the finished product, I can't help but look at it with a "less-than-complimentary" eye. I tend to pick stuff apart, and this one is no exception to my rule. The front contours (grille, bumper) don't work for me. The stock '67-8's have more of a backward slope to the grille angle. The "69-72's are more vertical, but their grille angles are less forgiving than the earlier grilles are, in my opinion.

If you like the 67-72's in their stock configuration, fine. If you like the later models, so be it. I say "they shouldn't marry outside of their own kind", or so I have heard said.

Re: 68 clip on 00 silveraldo

I don't like it. Doesn't flow well enough, and is definitely not enough of a throwback to the 67/68 pickups. If a slotted grill and headlight buckets make it retro (that's about all that's nearly the same), then they just did a hell of a lot of extra work.

The worst part is the slope of the hood meeting the grill, the absence of grill trim, and the worst part - the rolled bumper.

I kinda like it, but I think it would look much better if the headlight trim was painted black

But I don't think anyone should copy this, then it wouldn't be cool

Re: 68 clip on 00 silveraldo

Hmmmmm, seeing that second pic with a bit better view of the grille.....looks like he may have used the wider grille bars out of an '07 GMT900 truck. Don't think he actually did a lot of "genuine" fabrication work, more like cut and graft work. Still, I dont think it looks all that bad.

Re: 68 clip on 00 silveraldo

I have always that we needed a "retro" truck using tje 67-68 truck styling. This guy almost pulled it off. A little more design work and I think we may be there.

I like it but he should have kept the loops in the grill or something the black sorta blends it all.

Better than the GMC grill in the 50's model

I agree he should have left some chrome or something to offset all that color...and it def is better then the gmc grille in the 50's model
