What do you think?

I am prolly going to get a 383 kit from Summitt, roller rockers, 274 Comp Cam, Weiend (sp?) Intake Manifold, Hedman headers, don't know which posi to get, and 342 gears. Oh yeah a megashifter too. What do you think about this and what do you think i cam run in the 1/4 with a 69 LWB Chevy with this in it and a 350 turbo with a shift kit? And what kind of posi is the best out right now??

Wow that's a lot of stuff. The only thing I can say is I like Summit. I'd also go with a TransGo shift kit. Summit carries them. I wouldn't go with B&M.

yea, what they said

Expect to see high 13's depending on what cylinder head you use and the 4:11's.

I still want to be able to drive on the highway quite a bit so i thought that 373 and 411 gears are too much. Also i talked to a mechanic aboiut the stall converter and he said if i am still gonna drive it most of the time on the street then to not get a stall it tears up your transmission quicker. Wouldn't 342's be better for my overall driving.

your mechanic....Is he real old? like with a hearing aid and cane? with a tranny cooler and 3:73 or 4:11 gears and a 2500 stall converter it makes for a friendly street package...cruise rpms will be at or over 2500 rpm...you want unfriendly...go with 3:42s and the 274 cam....that wont be very much fun..dont believe me..or him..get other opinions...I have 3:73s with a2500 stall...Im thinking about ging with a 3000 stall...if you go to comps web site and look up that cam, they suggest a stall converter. I have a mechanic here locally that wont build an iron head motor with more than 9-1 C/R...no matter what you ask him..or offer to pay him...some guys just have there own ideas....not always right though.....and if your just going to be hiway cruising..I take back my rant..lol...from talking to you in the past I thought you were building street/track truck..my bad

You will need 2500 stall minimum with that XE 274,& the lower gears will help also. My longhorn has a flat top 383, with edelbrock rpm heads. intake, & carb. the cam is a comp XE 268. I run a TCI breakaway verter(advertsed 2400-2800 stall), 400T, & 4.10 gears. i havent been to the strip to give any idea on times, but its a pretty nice combo of parts. the 4.10 gears arent bad for in town or a short hop on the hyway, it turns 3000 rpms @ 60 mph on a 28" tire. the biggest problem I have is getting the tires to "bite".i will be going 15x 10 on the back ralleys & more rubber, & moving the tank to the rear......crazy AL

What would the difference in 1/4 times in the 342 and the 373's gears cause you said high 13's with the 410's. How much time would i be sacrificing with each of those??? Is a stall bad for your transmission???????

heat kills tranny's...a high stall speed torque converter will cause more heat than a stock one..thats why you need an aux. tranny cooler..now a high stall with hiway gears(3:42) is not a good idea..because the cruise rpms will be lower than the stall..not good..3:73s were very comon in our trucks, with non high reving stock engines.

3.73s with your 275/60 tire will get you 3000 rpms @ 64 mph.....the 4.10s will go 3000 rpms @ 60 mph. The 3.73 is a good all around gear street/track, &you wont loose too much at the track. you just want to be sure that the converter doesnt stall higher than the hyway cruise speed ,as bigjim has posted. here is a link to auto math if you want to play a bit... http://www.smokemup.com/auto_math/index.php
