Atlanta area wheel widening?

Looking for a place in the Atlanta area that can add 4" to a set of 8" rallies...
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Re: Atlanta area wheel widening?

I just had some done here in Gainesville. These are 9" and I used some donor wheels so there would only be one weld. Weldon Whitmire 678-677-6636.

Re: Atlanta area wheel widening?

I like to run 1" wider in the rear, so I only had a pair done. I had one wheel that had been curbed, so I only wasted one wheel to make this pair. He charged me $75 each to cut 'em on a lathe and weld them up. Now I think I want some 10s for the rear and put these on the front...

Re: Atlanta area wheel widening?

Those do look nice! Thanks for the reply. Is that number the number of the guy who widened them? You added the inch to the outside, right? I was thinking 2 out and 2 in, mini tubbing the bed, and trying to get an N50 under it. I've seen one or two done that way, and it seems to work, but I don't know what kind of heartaches come with it.

Thanks...

that does look good. i have never heard of doing that but it seems pretty simple. do you have any wheel balancing issues from doing this?

Re: Atlanta area wheel widening?

Hard to say on the balancing thing-- I've been trying to chase down a vibration in this burb for a while. It did seem ever so slightly worse after I put these wheels mounted with old tires on. They seemed to balance okay, though, with no huge weights. This guy did a really nice job, better than I expected and better than a bunch of cut wheels I've seen. Yes, that's his number in the previous post.

Re: Atlanta area wheel widening?

Stockton wheel is HIGH dollar! How about $375.00 to take a set of 8's to 10's.
A buddy just paid that! I think I'll try it myself, I'm working on a Jig to mount the wheel to so it can spin(front hub/spindle), and use a plasma cutter to split them(while spinning on the jig). I have run out guages, and a very nice mig welder. I'm going to have to re-locate the centers for the backspacing I need. I think I can do it, and do it right. I'll post pics if it works, I'll post a pic of me crying if it don't!

Re: Atlanta area wheel widening?

Hey Old Geezer,

I know this is an old post but how did it work out for you? Did you ever try to split your wheels and widen them?

I may give the guy in Gainesville a call or maybe get you to do some for me.

I'm on the east-side of Atlanta.

Thanks

Re: Atlanta area wheel widening?

I've had customers use both guys listed above with great results. Some larger circle track shops can widen steel wheels also.

"Broad Wheels" in Oneonta, Alabama makes a lot of the Nascar wheels and have widened some Pontiac Rally's for me, nice work, not too far from you.

I'm hoping so. He's actually going to be narrowing a wheel for me. Not only was he very nice, he seemed extremely knowledgeable.

Did you use the guy named Jerry in Calhoun?

What did you have done? Widening or narrowing?
