Cab painted (pics)

I just finished painting the cab on my project. It didn't turn out too bad, but there are some sags from the temp not quite being warm enough. I may sand them in the morning and reshoot.

What'd'ya think?

I'm wondering how you involved the leaf blower in the painting process.... :-)

Looks great to me. Can't see any orange peel in the reflections on the side and roof. Nice booth, looks like what I have planned. Any nibs/trash to sand out? Single stage or base/clear?

Re: Cab painted (pics)

Thanks all!!! I wish I could say it's a perfect paint job.. There is absolutely no orange peel, but there are a few runs that I'll need to sand out this morning and possibly reshoot. Maybe using the leaf blower wasn't such a good idea... The paint is just Omni single stage acrylic enamel, but I'm toying with the idea of sanding it with 800 grit and shooting on some clear. It's the factory color and matches the dash perfectly. There really isn't much dirt in the paint. I was really happy with how clean my "paint booth" stayed. That plastic came in a 12' by 400' roll for about $20 at Lowes. It's really thin but actually works out good.

How did you not get orange peal? Pardon my ignorance but I have never painted before other than rattle can on the frame and some parts, but still all can. So I was wondering what kind of gun did you use etc etc.

Re: Cab painted (pics)

My gun is actually a pretty good Devillbis. The reducer I'm using is a slow evaporating, so it has a chance to smooth out the paint before it sets up. That's also the reason for the runs.. I just shot another coat on after sanding it down and I sprayed it really light trying for a little orange peel. Then checked on it a few minutes later and it was smooth. I'm gunna wait about 20 minutes or so and spray on another light coat and hopefully nothing will run. I'll post some more pics in a few!

Re: Cab painted (pics)

Ok, just sprayed the final coat. It feels warm to me outside, but I just looked and it's only 60 degrees. I wish I had some faster reducer, but I'm happy with the results. Once color sanded, it should look good.

Paint looks good! When I read your post about it not being hot enough, well I just had to laugh to myself. It's a somewhat cool day at only 112 here

Re: Cab painted (pics)

Rick, I know what you mean.. This was a huge accomplishment, but now I'm looking at the doors, cowl, hood, and fenders that need paint, not to mention the bed that I haven't even started on yet. I've painted probably 15 cars in the past 21 years, but sometimes I feel like I still don't have the hang of it. There's always something I forget to do or do wrong.. I had the surface perfect when I sprayed on the paint that ran, and this morning after I sprayed on the paint perfect, I noticed lint from the towels I was using to wipe it down... Fortunately they hardly show and will color sand out, but it always seems like somethings got to go wrong.............

112 DEGREES!!! Holy cow! It was in the 90's here a couple weeks ago and was too hot do do anything outside. Oh yeah, but it's a dry heat...

Re: Cab painted (pics)

I am getting ready to go through this in a couple of days. If you don't mind me asking, about how much paint did you use in the interior? I am only going to be able to do the interior right now, so I'm going to do a single stage on the interior, then a B/C on the exterior after money permits. I was told before about 2 quarts for the interior. Sound right to you? By the way... Great job, hopefully mine will turn out as nice!!
