I have an engine hoist but need some ideas. I tried doing a search but only found how to remove cab. Thanks for any input.

this is how I did mine. Some 2x4's, one 4x4, and a long eye hook that went through both boards.

How is the weight distribution on the bed? Looking at your ingenuity, seems like far more weight is forward of the wheel wells?

Get you a stout buddy (I know there's someone out there that can help you) and just lift it off. That's the way I did mine. I placed a couple of saw horses with 2X4's across them behind the truck. We lifted up the rear and just pulled and eased it rearwards and placed it on the 2X4's.

with the tailgate off there is more weight towards the front. It took a couple of tries to get it perfect, but once you do it will lift up perfectly straight.

Also, I put the 2x4's under the lip of the bed to spread out the weight so it would not bend the bed rails. Worked very well.

Is it easier with the tailgate on or off? Also should I just set it on 2 sawhorses or put 2x4's across the sawhorses? Thanks for the picture and help.

I used rachet straps and made and "X" with the straps across the bed. I then put my engine hoist hook in the center of the "X" and lifted it up from there.

It was fairly easy to do.

I already had the tailgate off so I didn't try with it on. I thought the lighter the better anyway. I didn't use sawhorses. I built a little stand with wheels out of some wood I had laying around as I wanted to be able to move it around.

When you build a stand like this, take into account the height needed to get the cherry picker legs underneath of it. It will save you some headaches.....ask me how I know
