Re: dumba** mustang guy

A 5.0 Mustang? 1st it weighs between 2900-3400lbs, and with a supercharger or turbo you better watch out! 450 hp in one of those is a solid 11's in the quarter. trust me, I built one before.

Re: dumba** mustang guy

I would not be so fast to call him a dumba$$. 800hp in one of those may be a bit faster then 9s A 308 can put out 450+ it self then add a Turbo/supercharger of whatever and you need to stay away.

Re: dumba** mustang guy

I'm hoping to go bottom 10's with 650rwhp and a 3,550lb race weight next time out in my truck. If he makes 650rwhp+ and weighs in at 3,000lbs, he has a good chance of doing it provided the suspension is set up properly.

Not that drag calcs are the most accurate, but this one has done all right for me. 3,000lbs with 650rwhp shows a 9.49 @ 140mph. For comparison sakes, my truck at 3,840lbs with 390rwhp (Unlocked converter numbers), shows 11.93@109 and I went 11.96 @ 113.3 (locking the converter once in 2nd).

According to it, all of these get you a 9.99 or better:

4,000lbs and 725rwhp
3,900lbs and 705rwhp
3,800lbs and 690rwhp
3,700lbs and 670rwhp
3,600lbs and 650rwhp
3,500lbs and 635rwhp
3,400lbs and 615rwhp
3,300lbs and 600rwhp
3,200lbs and 580rwhp
3,100lbs and 560rwhp
3,000lbs and 550rwhp
2,900lbs and 525rwhp
2,800lbs and 510rwhp
2,700lbs and 490rwhp
2,600lbs and 470rwhp
2,500lbs and 455rwhp

Who knows, the guy may be full of it or he may be building something nasty. You can go 8s with the stock style suspension. The thing that's killing us truck guys is the weight.

Who knows maybe the guy will build a sick car, or maybe the guy is just talking out his a--. I guese all you can do is wait and find out.

Re: dumba** mustang guy

Drag72. I may be wrong but i believe you are fairly young. 18 or so? One thing i use to do as well as others here(im sure of) is base things off my experience. Because i knew everything and got pissed when someone was faster or had something better. I never wanted to admit it or believe it.

now i take what everyone says with a grain of sault. Wait to see what he builds then say nice or say what happened to that 9s car you were building?. but i try not to say dumbass thinks ....... because if it comes true then you look like the dumbass. Give him time and see what he has.

Re: dumba** mustang guy

There are many very fast stock style suspension cars out there. By this they use stock mounting locations yet all aftermarket components. Look up Bowman's Camaro for instance. He is making more power but that is still a stock style car running a drag radial.

Re: dumba** mustang guy

A lot of stock suspension stang guys going fast, that is why they are a dime a dozen, lots and lots of bolt on stock type suspension pieces and they hang the front end, never underestimate someone unless you know them (very well). I have jacked with a few guys in 5 slows when I was in college (U of A) in 90-94, the height of the 5 ohh movement). I beat most of the daddy bought cars (frat guys, messing with a knuckle/gearhead!), but every now and then I'd find a guy that had a lot of daddy bought speed parts and they are quick! With the advent of bolt on superchargers, heads, cam, turbos, etc, etc, oh and that little thing made glamorous by 2 fast2 clueless NOZ, DUDE!! you never know what is out there.

On a nother note, if I was going to spend the $$$ on an aftermarket block that usually provides lots of room for stroke and overbore, I'd build a 341 or 37? (not a ford guy but a stroked 351???) Why 308, no replacement for displacement, unless of course he plans to bolt on some forced ci!?

Re: dumba** mustang guy

That is the key, if you know him then you are on a little bit more solid ground calling him out, but that same line from a poser could lead to you watching tailights too! Any racer worth his salt also knows how to sandbag/bs someone into thinking thier ride is slow/underpowered until C notes change hands, then all of the sudden the car is unrecognisable, and has a different sound, say when spooled up!! Been there seen it and watched tailights a time or two!!
