How to install fuel sender and plug extra lines

I bought this Blazer Poly tank and sender just the way you see it in these pictures and was wondering what you all do to cap off the extra lines on the tank. I would rather not have these brass hose adaptors and would like a poly cap of some sort and glue it on.
Also pertaining to the rubber O ring for the sending unit. Is there anything to putting it on that I should know beings I have no directions . papa

Re: How to install fuel sender and plug extra lines

I will elaborate a little more in hopes that some one will give me some tips on this tank installation ..

The brass fittings that are shown in my pictures that are extras I don't need have to be plugged or something to keep dirt out of the tank and that is for sure,,but what I would like to know is ,,,is there caps that they make to cap off these ports and if any one knows of any ,,I would like to know so to purchase them.

And where the rubber O ring fit downs where it belongs ,,it "verily will reach the metal rim that clamps down over the ring to make it air tight ,,and was wanting to get some feed back just what others have done when encountering the same as I have ..

thanks if you have anything to help me on this .. papa

Re: How to install fuel sender and plug extra lines

Can't help on the extra holes except go to the napa or other variety of auto parts and get brass plugs or rubber caps as needed for the extra holes. As far as the sending unit, place the oring on the unit after you put on the retaining ring. Put the sender in the tank and use a screw driver to tap the retainer into place in the locks on the retainer. It is a simple twist-lock design as you will see after start the install. Remeber also you will have to trim a crossmember on the bed floor so that there is no interference between the bed and tank (you will actually cut a section out of the crossmember) . What are you going to do for a filler? If you need a solution check out the build thread by Big J in KY, about half way through he doesa great pictoral and install of a gas door for one of these conversions. Hope this helps, Harold

Re: How to install fuel sender and plug extra lines

close-up of the brass fitting would help. are they threaded?

that would probably be too easy though... unless you felt like sawing them down and tapping them so you could just use some thread sealer or teflon tape and a threaded plug...

Re: How to install fuel sender and plug extra lines

That's easy....simple vacuum line plug caps will work on the lines you don't need. You can get 'em in the help section of any parts store.

Re: How to install fuel sender and plug extra lines

Just a thinking outloud,,,errr typing out load ,,,,errr you know

Anyway, you could always just run a piece of fuel line between them. It would just create a loop between the tank and the tank.

I was looking for the correct caps to put on the un-used ports out of the poly tank and from all the replies I have gotten tells me that there is no such correct caps to be had ,,so beings the tank is called a poly tank ,,,then ,,, why wouldn't poly pipe that plumbers use for water lines be of the same substance and why couldn't I just use what ever plumbers use to cap their water pipes ??
I aim to find out and if it is so ,,this is what I will do to keep the tank cleaned up from all the extra stuff hanging off it.. "thx though" and if all fails ,,then your method is another to consider.. papa

Re: How to install fuel sender and plug extra lines

Papa those brass fittings are screwed into the tank, correct? If so it's a simple matter of removing those and replacing them with brass pipe plugs, paint em black and be done with it.

Ok! I decided to take a chance and screw the fitting out and hope that the person who put them in didn't strip them in doing so. Because had they done so then it would of been better to just leave them be and cap them off.

Well , as I said before no one mentioned any factory caps like from the poly tank company so I went ahead and screwed them all out and got lucky and all seem to have good threads left to put plugs in the ones I don't use.

I had no instructions with this poly tank and sure didnt want to create problems with a hurry up mistake ,,, so here I am Now knowing how simple it was by just unscrewing the pipe fittings and replace with plugs,, so thanks for all the advice ,,,and by taking my time it has worked out with out a foul up that would of cost me time and money..

Hope some one else with a poly tank install can get some good advice from all of this .. Here is a close up picture of the brass fittings that were in my tank tank .. papa
