1953 Truck

Hi to all, I'm a new truck person, I've built a couple of street rods 51chevy and a 57 chevy wagon, but this is my first truck.
I purchased a 1953 chevy 1/2 ton all stock, been in the same family since new. It's all in primer and ready for paint, I had to give 2300 for it. I'm going to upgrade the suspension etc. it still has the original 216 motor, my question: should I keep this motor or just sell it at the local swap meet? Is there any market for the 216? I'm not going to use the motor, it's being replaced with a stock 283 SBC. I'm looking forward to working on this truck, I'll post some photos as soon as I can, thanks.

Check with a local boat dealer. They may need a boat anchor.

Re: 1953 Truck

It all depends on how much room you have. You are not going to get anything for it,so maybe the answer might be to hold on to it. Unless you can find someone who wants to go back to stock.

Re: 1953 Truck

I am not sure that the motor is worth nothing! There is a growing number of customizers that are using the old straight 6 engines. Places like Patricks are selling a growing number of go fast parts for these motors. And if the engine is a 54-62? it is really in demand. I for one would like to get my hands on a couple of good rebuildable 54-62? 235 engines.

Re: 1953 Truck

I tried to unload my 58 235 and no one locally (SW Idaho) wanted it but I did get emails from Nevada and Arizona from my Craigslist ad. I still have it if anyones interested, last ran in 1985 and needs complete rebuild.

That would be great if they would take it. It would be a perfect tool to take apart and let the kids see how an engine works.
