Re: 1970 color code

521 is a for a white truck, are we to assume it has an optional paint scheme of a white roof? Wasn't available because it's a solid white color to begin with.
The optional white roof with any other color could give it up to 2 other paint numbers depending what area of the truck has a secondary color.
Not sure what truck your talking about for the paint scheme but lets use the one in your avatar for instance. Medium Green with Special Two Tone paint is option number 598. Best source for this type of paint scheme option number varification is the 1970 dealer data book which is what I'm looking at now for this number. Page 6 in the Cabs, Body, Color & Trim section.

Re: 1970 color code

^^^ I was thinking the same thing. when the roof was white and the body color was another color other than white, GM came up with another paint code.

for instance my spid lists my 504 green and 521 white top paint scheme as 534.

however, if you are painting the roof and need the correct white, 521 is the ticket......

Re: 1970 color code

Sorry for the hijack, but a new thread with the same question would be redundant. Here's my SPID can you tell me what it means? I know it was gold with white roof, but not sure if it had white on the lower side under trim or not.

Says special paint, but the code looks weird to me.

Re: 1970 color code

hilandr452, its possible because of the BX2 custom lower side molding option, but with the special paint option listed on your spid, I'd say it was special ordered with a desired paint scheme, so all bets are a gamble. Originally gold and white top, well so be it, I can't decode the special paint number to anything from the data book or my knowledge. Though I'd like to think if i looked at enough spid's with special paint as an option I could make a reasonable assumption that ...hmm...and hmmm some more....., makes me think and wonder if thats what they did to have the paint as white on top and white under the bottom trim, and have the main color on the mid and upper body but on a truck with no upper molding which may or may not be your case. Been a while since I jumped in on paint threads, can't remember if I've thought about those plausibilities at the moment, and it's a GMC long horn to boot too add to the quest. lol, gettin lenghty here, maybe it should have been its own thread.

tcb-1 the 1970 code for olive green (metallic) and white top is 534, which is known as a two tone package. 1970 had olive green, dark green and light green paint available.

Re: 1970 color code

The gold inside the cab matches the gold my dad had on his 70 GMC, so I think it's the same. I've done some sanding on the hood and bed, but didn't take her down to the base coat below the trim. The outer layer of gold was definitely not original, because it was pretty cheap and they still left the original gold under that. (besides that, some moron painted the wood in the bed gold)

I'll eventually figure this out when I get ready to do the final body work before painting, but it would be cool to know what it looked like from the factory.
I plan to paint it with the white top, medium gold from there to the lower trim, and white below the trim. I am also looking to add the upper trim kit. That is a nice look.

There's a bunch of pictures on the site in my sig if you care to look.

Dan

Re: 1970 color code

I looked the link to your site in your sig, that just made more questions..where is the gold looks to be 68 GMC longhorn pictured in that cluster of pics with the camper on back. The pic spid shows a vin for 71. Boxes are different also, could be just a different truck I would summize..

Mine says it is option 542 Medium Blue/White, but doesn't call out the numbers from the chips above. I guess I assumed it was the same.

Re: 1970 color code

I have a '70 that I am getting painted soon. I want to paint it Dark Olive with White 2-tone. I just seen the Color chips above^^^^ But none say Dark Olive. To get dark olive would I use the....

Dark Green - Code:505
Dark Green Poly - Code:506

And what is the difference in the two?

If I am wrong I'll let others chime in.

Do you know the code just for the dark olive alone? Because I know you guys were saying when it was a 2-tone paint job they had a totally different code than it being a solid paint job.

The color for Dark Olive is 506. That is what my '72 Cheyenne is... I have the information in the glove box, but I just don't have a photo of it yet.

Re: 1970 color code

My son and I are restoring a 70 CST Blazer that does not have a SPID sheet inside the glove box or the build sheet under the seat. It was originally the Yellow Green, but we repainted dark green exterior and black interior way back before us.

We wanted to go with an OEM black exterior. Was there a black paint code for the trucks that we could use?

Thanks!

Post #3 shows Black as paint code 500, but doesn't show a paint chip.
