WTB - 305 V-6 starter

Looking for a starter for a 305 v-6 4-speed manual (1968 GMC 3/4 4x4). Mine is toast, I've gone thru three different orders at the parts store - still no replacement.

Thanks!

They don't fit ? Is the nose different ? If you still have the old nose, if that is the problem, I would think you could graft the back end of any Delco starter to it ? Just guessing here, have never seen one, but just a thought.

Re: WTB - 305 V-6 starter

I agree, just put the "motor" off another starter on yours.
I have a 351 GMC,V/6.I'll look tomorrow to see if this will work.
Do not give them your starter! If their rebuilt one won't work, yours' will be long gone by the time you get back!
Sent off to the re-builders!
Mike.

Re: WTB - 305 V-6 starter

Thanks for the info guys! Agree - I held onto the starter and refused to let go at the parts store!

The nose on it is different, two parts stores so far have cross referenced it only to have a starter with the wrong nose come in.... It has a wide spread for the bolt pattern, also two bolts v. the three that were coming in.

Looks like I'll be seeking out a shop that rebuilds starters.

I had my 305 V6 starter rebuild and recommend you do the same.

I most likely have one of these or maybe even two if you change your mind about the rebuild you could PM me ,most of the time all thats wrong with about 90% of starters its the front bushing that goes bad ,I used to do them myself a lot of the time.
